It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Esther Dyson who fought a long battle. She was called home to the lord on October 14, 2025, at Alexandria Inova Hospital in Alexandria Virginia after a silent battle with lung, liver, and colon cancer.
Esther Ophelia Dyson was born on August 22, 1956, in Washington D.C. to the late Walter Herbert Dyson Sr. and the late Hilda Martina Ford Dyson. She was the 2nd oldest of five children. Esther was educated in Charles County Public Schools. As time went on, she worked in food service, housekeeping, childcare, and the nursing field. She also worked with a few local bands in the community such as the Jim Bennett and Butch Dyson Bands. Esther's hobbies were sewing, cooking, listening to music, shopping, and completing crossword puzzles.
Esther enjoyed spending time with her family and friends especially her nieces and nephews during the day. She loved to hit the town clubs by night. Esther also belonged to a CB Club and was known as "Tugga Wugga".
Esther was well known for her ambitious mentality and willingness to help those in need. As years passed, Esther began to slow down and was forced to spend more time at home where she enjoyed watching BET Plus famous "Tyler Perry" shows.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, brother Walter "Lil Walter" Dyson Jr., and sister Hilda "Birdie" Swann. Two special long time friends Franklin Johnson and Wayne Samuel.
Esther leaves to cherish her life her sister Towanda (Joe) Beverly and brother Jeffrey (Song) Dyson. Aunts: Ann Roberta Johnson and Margaret Inez Mathews. Nieces & Nephews: Paulette (Johann) Dunnington-Stern, Walter "Mannie" Dyson III, Lakeisha (Shannon) Webster, Tiffany Waters, Bianca Beverly, Joseph "DeQuane" Beverly, and Daryl Dyson. Great Nieces & Nephews: Natalya Stern, Tre Dyson, Amyah Dyson, Jayce Dyson, Shannon "Gia" Webster, Keisaan Webster, Khyir Webster, Justin "Jay" Waters Jr. Julyssa Waters, Samara Beverly, Sh'Niyah Dyson, Myah Dyson, Xzavion Dyson, God-daughter Katherine (Leelee) Dyson, A Sisterly Cousin Delores "Baby Sis" Craig, and A Brotherly Cousin Greg Stringer.
Viewing, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2025, until time of Service, 11:30 a.m., in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.
