Obituary

Eric Christopher Antrum, age 41, of Fort Washington, Maryland.

On Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Washington Hospital Center, in Washington, D.C., Eric Christopher Antrum departed this earthly life and entered into eternal peace.

Eric was born on May 30, 1977 to Barbara Ann Antrum and the late Willie Antrum, Sr.

Eric received his education in the public schools of Prince George's County, Maryland, where he also passionately loved playing sports (especially football) and spending time with his neighborhood friends.  Above all, Eric valued family and loyalty. As such, he regarded his Fort Foote and Indian Queen peers as his extended brothers.

In 1996, Eric enlisted in the United States Army National Guard.  The following year, Eric and high school sweetheart Tamara, were blessed with their son, Jaquoi.  Eric loved his son dearly and taught him the importance of strength and endurance.  Some of their favorite moments involved Eric teaching Jaquoi the same sports he loved to play as a child. Eric cherished every moment spent with his life-long love and son.

In 2003, Eric began his career as a Special Police Officer for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA).  Eric's passion for helping others lead him to serve as a Union-Steward for Teamsters Local 639, where he passionately advocated for the benefits and rights of his colleagues. Eric labored tirelessly to secure changes in company policies, he believed were not in the best interest of his peers.  As steward, Eric's most successful achievements include, revisions to WMATA's "Clean Shaven" and uniform compensation policies, as well as negotiating for job security. He was loved by many of his co-workers and developed some long-lasting friendships.

Eric's most precious moments in life were spent fishing with his father; cookouts with his family and friends; searching for a daily spades match; cheering for his beloved NY Giants (while taunting Redskins fans); and celebrating holidays. His favorite holiday was Memorial Day, because it occasionally coincided with his birthday; and, it gave him an excuse to prepare his secret sauce for his infamous ribs.

Eric was a loving, kind and generous man. He never stopped giving or missed an opportunity to tell a joke, for anyone in need of a good laugh or smile.  His laughter and beautiful smile were infectious and adored.  Eric will truly be missed.

Eric leaves to mourn his passing, a devoted mother, Barbara Ann Antrum; godmother, Reverend Mildred Brown; loving son, Jaquoi Alston-Antrum; siblings, Willie Antrum, Jr., Stacey Evans, Kevin Antrum, and Damien Williams; brother-in-law Marcus Evans; aunts, Cassandra Crumpton and Evelyn Neal; uncles, Mannie J. Taylor III and Ben Antrum; nephews, Michael and Keshawn Booth; nieces, Kirya Antrum, Mykenzie Antrum, and Kayla Williams. And a host of other devoted family and friends.

"My dad was a loving, intelligent and strong man.  His presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him, especially me.
