Elnora Louvenia Tingle, 93, of La Plata, Maryland

Elnora Louvenia Barnett Tingle of Pomonkey, MD was born on May 21, 1930 to the late Eleanor Jones Barnett and Nathaniel Fleet.  She entered into eternal life on January 10, 2024.

Elnora was preceded in death by her husband Oscar R. Tingle, her stepfather Sydney K. Barnett, Sr.  and her nine siblings:  Bertha Jones Ward, Isabella Barnett, Sydney Barnett, James Walter, Agnes Barnett, Samuel Barnett, Thomas "Pete" Barnett, Thelma Scott and Jane Monk.

Elnora was employed early in life.  While attending Pomonkey Elementary School, she cooked for the teachers prior to attending class.   During the summer months at the age of 12, she worked for the Government Hotel, located at the Naval Base in Indian Head, MD.  After graduating from high school, Elnora moved to Washington, DC.  While there, she worked at "The Pig and the Pit" restaurant, where she met Oscar Tingle, the man she eventually married on June10, 1972.

Elnora wanted to pursue a different career path in life.  She attended Career Academy in Washington, DC and graduated as a Medical Assistant on June 3, 1967.  Elnora worked for the Dept. of Human Resources Children Center in Laurel, MD from 1966 until it's closing in 1991.  She was the first African American in their medical unit.

Although Elnora and Oscar bore no children, she leaves behind to cherish her memories her special niece Isabelle Monk McConnor (Patrick), nieces; Joan F. Bransome, Yvonne F. Hairston-Branson, Sydney K. Hodson (Michael), Jacqueline Barnes (Cornell); nephews, Derrick Barnett, James Ward (Davella), Gregory Scott (Carla); half siblings, Dora (Fleet) Young, Clyde Fleet, Nathaniel Fleet, Jr.; goddaughter Constance Denise Walker, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m., until time of service, 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont, Maryland.
