Obituary

Ella Laura Scott (Age 84) of Waldorf, Maryland.

Ella Laura Scott was born August 7, 1934, to Edward Scott and Margaret F. J. Scott in Ironton, Ohio. She is survived by her two brothers, George Scott and Bobby Scott, two sisters-in-law, Paulette Scott and Jenny Scott, son, Michael R. Davis, daughter-in-law, Kathleen Davis, daughter, Edna McClary Nipper and son-in-law, Tony Nipper, grandchildren, Carnel McClary and Markeeta McClary, Darnel McClary and Jalisa McClary, Kira McClary, Quentin Murchison, Tony Nipper, Jr., Sharlitta Mickle, great grandmother to Amir McClary, Wyatt Nipper and a host of many others.

Ella Laura Scott was raised in Ironton, Ohio, where she attended The Owl School where she found her love for music, sewing and the marching band, but her favorite of all was singing in the choir. Her love for music led her to love gospel and R&B and she would often listen to music and share her favorite song with her mom and talk for hours about the artist who sang the song. As a child, she loved ice skating and roller skating and would often do these activities on the weekend after her household chores were done. As a young adult, she worked many off jobs trying to find herself in the world, as many adults do sometimes. In 1955, her mother, Margaret, relocated to Washington, DC, to help her aunt Mary who was sick at the time. Ella kept in touch with her mom on a weekly basis and they talked about Washington, DC for hours. So much so that Ella relocated to Washington, DC. In 1957, when she started working at Walter Reed Hospital as a nursing aide, she met Mr. Michael R. Davis and out of this long courtship she gave birth to a handsome baby boy. Mr. Davis asked Ella to relocate with him, but she refused and informed him that she had relocated to Washington, DC to assist her aunt and her mother. Relocating to another state was out of the question at the time. In 1963, she started working for what is now called Metro and was one of the toughest union shop stewards known. Whenever she went to battle for her people, she would tell them, one letter will stop all this mess going on. In 1966, she met Mr. John Wesley McClary and from this marriage a beautiful baby girl was born, Edna McClary Nipper. The family lived in South East, Washington, DC, but, often traveled back to North Carolina and Ohio to visit family and friends, for many years. In 1988, she retired from Metro and started working in the home health field; caring for people was one of her specialties. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. No matter what the situation, Ella was willing to help a person in need. In 1996, she retired and moved in with her daughter and three grandchildren whom she loved very much. Watching the children when Edna worked the night shift was one of her favorite moments, because they could eat and watch whatever movies they wanted with grandma. Mom would never let them do that. The children would ask grandma why mom always told them no, but, with grandma, she would not say anything. Ella would say, because she know who the oldest is in this house and I don't care if it is her house, I'm the boss and she know it. Then she would look at them and just smile. In 2010, the family relocated to White Plains, Maryland. Ella told Edna, "girl, this place is nice, we should have moved here a long time ago." The family relocated again in 2017 to Waldorf, Maryland. Ella told Edna, "girl, this place is nicer than the other place." "Are you happy, because I'm happy. If God don't do anything else, he has done enough with this move." Ella was a sweet person who made friends with everyone, no matter who they were. She loved to joke with people and would tell anybody, you cannot make it in this world unless you have a heart for people; laugh when you have to, cry when you have to, but always love no matter what. Love and laughter is what the world is made of.

On Thursday, February 7, 2019, Ella L. Scott, transitioned to eternal life.
