Obituary

Elizabeth Marie King, age 67, of Waldorf, Maryland

Elizabeth was born on May 2, 1956 in Fort Hood, Texas to Jessie and Mary Luna. On Saturday, April 13, 2024, she transitioned to eternal rest with her Lord and Savior at her home in Waldorf, Maryland with her family by her side.

Elizabeth and her family lived in Germany for many years while her father served in the US Army.  She graduated from Frankfurt High School in 1975.  She met the love of her life in 1973 in Aschaffenburg, Germany while attending a basketball game with her brothers.  When the Luna and King families returned to the states, the Lunas settled in Texas and the Kings in Maryland. Liz moved to Maryland where she married Barry King on June 18, 1977.  Liz and Barry made their home in Maryland and from their union shared two children, Connie and Barry, Jr.

She began her career with Safeway in 1987 working at the Bryan's Road Store #1344 location for most of her tenure as a GM-HBC Department Manager.  She also worked at various locations including Fort Washington, Oxon Hill, and Waldorf Marketplace until she retired in February 2021 with 34 years of service. While working at Safeway, Liz enjoyed talking to the customers and her coworkers, many became like family to her.

Affectionately known as Liz, Lizzie, Lizzy Doll or Nana, to her loved ones and friends, she was a kind, caring and thoughtful person. She always helped others in any way that she could.  Liz enjoyed being on the move, she did not like to sit still; always on the go "a true busy body."  She loved to go shopping.  After retiring, she said going shopping and walking around at her favorite stores was her exercise.  Her daily routine included visiting Burlington and her favorite store, the Goodwill or "The Goody" as she liked to call it, to search for deals.  She often purchased items for family and friends; she was so proud to show the good deal she got, many items brand new with the tags still on them. Most of all she especially enjoyed going to yard sales.  She liked to be there early to get first pick and help set prices for the items.  Liz enjoyed talking to people, she would start a conversation easily and always ask about family, and be sure to share stories about her kids, grandkids and family.

Liz loved her family in Maryland and Texas.  She enjoyed family gatherings, eating crabs, going to the beach and taking trips back home to Austin, Texas. Liz and Barry's home was the fun house. All the kids loved spending time there because Liz made sure the kids had a good time or took them somewhere fun. She loved to watch the Voice, Family Feud, and Sunday football games. Her favorite football teams were the Washington Commanders and Texas Longhorns.  Liz was a devoted grandmother.  She took pride in caring for her grandkids and taking them anywhere they wanted to go, especially the swimming pool in the summertime.

In addition to her late devoted husband Barry King, Sr., she is preceded in death by her loving father, Jessie Luna, mother-in-law, Alma King, sister-in-law, Sherril Miles and best friend, Gail "Cookie" Linkins.

Liz leaves to cherish her memories her loving children, Connie Parham (Terrance) and Barry King, Jr.; beloved mother, Mary Luna, brothers; Michael Luna (Debbie), Joseph Luna (Alejandra-deceased), Robert Luna, James Luna, Charles Luna, sister, Michelle Luna,  aunt, Gloria Guillen and uncles, Robert Luna, Peter, Jessie and Joe Esparza;  father-in-law, Vincent King, sister-in-law, Sharon Lawrence, brother-in-law, Anthony King, adored grandchildren; Rachelle Turrentine (DeJuan), Maya Parham, Terrance Parham, Jr. , Alaiya Parham (Jordan), Kayla Parham and Taylor Parham, great-grandchildren; Madison Parham, Mars Riggins, and Jaylen Turrentine, cherished 22 nieces and nephews, 42 great-nieces and nephews and 13 great-great nieces and nephews, best friends, Timothy Moses, Joyce Washington, Laverne Jackson and a of host of family and friends.
