Obituary

Edward J. Chubbs (affectionately known as Jimmy) was born on January 24, 1936, to the late James and Minerva Chubbs in Bremo Bluff, Virginia. He was the youngest of seven children.

Jimmy was educated in Fluvanna County Public Schools. He was a member of New Fork Baptist Church in Shores, Virginia. He started working at a young age for Nolde's Bread.

Jimmy became fascinated with automobiles at an early age. As he got older, he owned many different makes and models. He was always known to have one of the cleanest cars in town. He relocated to Washington, D.C. where his first job was at George Washington University Hospital as a parking lot attendant where he also washed cars on the side.

Jimmy married the love of his life, Geraldine L. Hughes on January 19, 1959, spending 63 years happily married. From this union five children were born.

Jimmy was inspired by his older brother to drive taxicabs. He drove for over 50 years. He drove for many Congressmen, judges, and most of his work was from the Capitol Hill Hotel. His customers appreciated his promptness and attention to detail, specifically the cleanliness of his taxicab, his attire, and hats. In addition to driving his taxicab, he also drove dump trucks for Hutchinson Brothers for seventeen years and served as the shop steward.

Jimmy was a hardworking man that loved his family dearly. His favorite artists were James Brown, B.B. King, and Wilson Pickett. He enjoyed dancing, especially with his lovely wife. He also enjoyed sitting in his backyard soaking in the sun and listening to music.

Jimmy loved the Lord and was a faithful member of New Fellowship Baptist Church in Clinton, MD.

Jimmy peacefully departed this life on Sunday, January 23, 2022. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Chubbs and brothers, Robert Bradley, Jr., Phillip Bradley, Joseph Bradley, Russell Bradley, and his sister, Julia Lyles.

Jimmy's memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Geraldine Chubbs of Washington, D.C.; one sister, Alice Gray of Upper Marlboro, MD; four children: Edward Chubbs (Tina) of Clinton, MD, Melissa Chubbs of Temple Hills, MD, LaShawn Haley (Lorenzo) of Upper Marlboro, MD and Christopher Chubbs (Rhonda) of Waldorf, MD; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
