Edison Samuel McBayne was born on January 21, 1930, in Panama City, Panama. He was the first child to Herman Christopher McBayne and Winifred Elvira White.He departed this life on Thursday, November 1, 2018, at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
Edison, whom everyone lovingly called Eddie or Mac, received his education in Panama City, Panama from elementary school to college. He maintained a straight "A" average throughout his academic education. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Panama and an Associate's Degree from Prince George's Community College in the United States of America. Edison joined Fort Foote Baptist Church in March of 2002 and served as a dedicated member of the church security team until his passing.
He moved to the United States in 1957 and received his permanent visa. He was drafted into the Army in 1957, but, decided to join the Air Force. While in the Air Force, he traveled to many different parts of the world. He lived in Panama for one year, Spain, four years, Nebraska, two years, Panama again, four years, Vietnam, one year, Germany, four years, Washington, DC, one year, Greenland, one year and back to Washington, DC, where he remained and retired from the United States Air Force at the Pentagon in 1978. A year after he retired from the Air Force, he began to work for the Navy as a civilian in positions that spanned multiple departments, including the areas of Surface Ship Directorate, Amphibious WarFare, NavSea Program Management, Supply Systems, and Supply Linguistics. Edison retired from the Navy in 1993.
Eddie was a proud Prince Hall Mason. He was a Past Master of Ronald E. McNair Lodge #146, Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge Maryland; a Companion of Samuel T. Daniels #107, Most Excellent Hiram Holy Grand Chapter of Holy Royal Arch Masons PHA Maryland; a Grand Inspectors General (33rd degree) of James A. Mingo Consistory #334, United Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry PHA SJ; and an Honorary Past Potentate of Misr Temple #213. Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Masons throughout all jurisdictions have benefited from his encouragement and mentoring. He gave over sixty years of dedicated service to Prince Hall Masonry.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Vera Harrigan-McBayne, three children, Ricardo Antonio McBayne, Ana Marie McBayne, Edison Samuel McBayne, Jr., two step children, Stephanie Denise Harrigan, Damien Stephon Wood, two grandchildren, Shonique Le'Ana McBayne, Teresa Renee McBayne, seven step grandkids, Ronald, Stephon, Aaron, Destiny, Sydnei Harrigan, Damien and Breezy Wood, one great-grandson, Zamari Harrigan, two sisters, Eleanor Clark, Carlene Bayne, two brothers, Bishop Melvin Bayne (Lilia), Mario Bayne (Regina), a special great-niece, Tracey Victoria Walker, a close family friend, Anida Daniels, and a host of other relatives and friends. Eddie was preceded in death by his sister, Marcia McBayne Smith (Robert), ex-wife, Pauline McBayne, his daughter, Laura Raquel McBayne-Alson, grandaughter, Shaunise Harrigan, niece, Yolanda Ilene Clark-Williams, and nephews, Anthony Dawton Clark and Alfred G. Clark.
His Viewing will be, 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Monday, November 19, 2018 and again at 10:00am, until time of Service, 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Fort Foote Baptist Church, 8310 Fort Foote Road, Fort Washington, Maryland 20744. Interment Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date.
