Eddie Alphonso Lewis of Indian Head, MD transitioned December 5, 2023.
Eddie "Mark" Lewis was born July 17, 1957, in Richmond, Virginia to the late Bertha Lewis Winston and Robert Lewis. He fought a good fight and kept the faith, he finished his course on December 5, 2023.
Eddie "Mark" was educated in the Richmond, Virginia public school system. He was an integral member of the undefeated 1975 Maggie L. Walker High School football team. The team was inducted into the city of Richmond Public Schools Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. He was the starting cornerback and kicker for the team, where he earned his nickname "Sure Toe." He was the inspirational leader of the wrestling team, where he was known as "Tough Eddie" and recruited most of the members. The team posted the best season in Maggie L. Walkers' school history.
Upon leaving high school, Eddie "Mark" joined the United States Air Force. He served his country from 1977 to 1981. He was employed by the Fairfax County public schools where he retired after 35 years of service as a building service supervisor. He was gifted and talented. His passion was making sure people's yards looked as good as his. He was a devoted Washington Commanders fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed building model airplanes and drawing in his sketchbook. Above all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his daughters, Mikisha and Mechelle.
Eddie "Mark" was a devoted member of the Fort Foote Baptist Church for over 33 years. He was a member of the Men's Chorus for many years. He enjoyed singing every third Sunday and helping to prepare breakfast for his brothers in Christ. He was also a member of the Vessels of Praise Choir. Wherever he was present, there was always joy and laughter in the room.
Eddie "Mark" leaves to cherish beautiful memories, his wife, Vicky Lewis, children, Mikisha Lewis Freeman, Mechelle Lewis Freeman (David), Takeisha Middleton; sisters, Reverend Cynthia Walker, Vanessa Nixon (Ernest), Patricia Lewis; brothers, Robert Lewis, Jr., Kenneth Lewis, Vincent Williams, Lee Lewis (deceased); grandchildren, Elijah, Gabrielle, Christian, Bayne, Harley, Talil, Kyree, Anthony and Amiyah; along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, the Fort Foote family and a special childhood friend, Jeffery "Juice" Washington.
Friends may visit with the family Friday, December 15th from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 at Fort Foote Baptist Church 8310 Fort Foote Road Ft. Washington, MD. Interment will be held at a later date at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
