Eddie Lewis Day, age 78, of Accokeek, Maryland, affectionately known by family as "Sonny Boy," transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. after an extended illness.

He was born in Auburn, Alabama to Belton and Willie Mae Vines Day on January 14, 1933. He received Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at the Greater Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Lafayette, Alabama.

Eddie attended the Lee County Public School System in Alabama. He enlisted in the United States Army as a teenager and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. Upon leaving military service he received a National Defense Service Medal. He remained active for eight years serving under the Universal Military Training and Service Act. After his service in the United States Army he returned to private life to be trained by his father in becoming a Master Bricklayer. It was a lifelong accomplishment to assist his father in the construction of Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama and many other landmarks in the vicinity of Auburn. His specialty was in the areas of Brick Masonry, Home Renovation and Landscaping. His projects included such things as an addition of a den and patio, a brick dog house with shutters and an intricately designed waterfall and fish pond with an illumination of lights.

Eddie enjoyed life. His pastime was often spent fishing, spending time with his friends at the garage, baking and enjoying his homemade sweet potato pies, caring for man's best friend, his dogs, especially, "Willow" and he loved giving fatherly advice. Eddie had the kindest heart and would give you the shirt from his back. One of his most cherished moments was the birth of his twin granddaughters, Morgan and Logan. They brought much joy and happiness to their granddad.

In 1969 he met the love of his life and best friend, Frances Ann McDaniel. Fran and Eddie were joined in Holy Matrimony, December 30, 1971 in Columbia, South Carolina. From this union they had one child, Kori Nerissa.
