IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Duane Lamont
Anderson, Sr.
January 16, 1954 – August 4, 2021
DUANE LAMONT ANDERSON, SR. (AGE 67) OF FORT WASHINGTON, MARYLAND.
Duane Lamont Anderson Sr., son of the late Charles Edward and Mildred Stevens-Anderson, was born in Washington, DC, on January 16, 1954. After withstanding several health challenges, on Wednesday August 4, 2021, surrounded by family, he peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord.
Duane grew up in River Terrace, a tightly-knit community in NE Washington, DC, where he attended Varick Memorial AME Zion Church. He later joined Fort Foote Baptist Church after moving to Fort Washington, Maryland. He was a graduate of Eastern High School in 1971. He later furthered his education at Howard University and Bowie State University.
Duane and Deborah Graves were married for 39 years and had two sons, Duane, II and Dane Jarryd. He took his role of being a dad serious. His most proud moments among many, were watching both of his sons graduate from Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland.
He was characterized as a deep thinker who was full of wisdom, integrity, and a sense of fairness. At times he was quite witty. He was a positive person and took the time to mentor many in his personal and work life. During his employment years, Duane worked as an Investigator Reporter for the Washington Star Newspaper and an IT Specialist for Freddie Mac. His employment at the Department of Veterans Affairs began in the Payroll Department. He always took full advantages of educational opportunities offered by the VA Administration and became an IT Specialist, worked as a Procurement Specialist and ultimately advanced to position of Agency Vice President for AFGE Union. Throughout his vocation he received many awards and citations for his services. He retired in 2014 after 30 plus years of Federal Government service.
Duane had two hobbies, music and cooking. Coming from a musical family, he was exposed to many genres of music. Music was his passion and his refuge from the day-to-day activities. If you visited him you would eventually end up in the basement in his self-constructed music professional studio listening to the music he produced. When not glued to his chair behind the keyboards, Duane could be found in the kitchen. The self-proclaimed "Master Chef" loved to grill and bake for family and friends. No one was allowed to touch his grill. He used to tell us there was an art to making a fire and we didn't know how to do that. He always said he was going to enter the Grill Master contest.
He leaves behind his wife Debbie (whom he affectional called Boo), two sons, Duane Lamont, II and Dane Jarryd; two grandchildren, Londyn Marie and Duane Lamont, III, he also leaves his twin brothers; Steven Kevin (Cheryl) and Charles Devin (Tiffani), aunts, Norris Kornegay and Rubye Stevens, uncle, James Anderson, in-laws; James (Joan) Graves, Odessa White, Kent Graves, Yvette Graves and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear, dear friends.
