PLATER, DOROTHY LOUISE (AGE 71) OF FORT WASHINGTON, MD

On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, Dorothy Louise Plater quietly entered eternal rest at Med Star Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, MD. She was born on November 10, 1944 in Charles County Maryland to the late John Lorenzo Greenhow and Carolyn Rosalie Hawkins Greenhow. Dorothy was affectionately called "Dottie" by those who knew her.

Dorothy was educated in Charles County Public Schools and graduated from Pomonkey High School in June 1962.

Dorothy met the love of her life, Logis Plater, on December 15, 1967 on a date and later married him on November 2, 1968. From this blessed union three children were born, one daughter and two sons. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother with a gentle and strong spirit. Dorothy's proudest accomplishments in life were giving birth to each of her children. She dearly loved her husband. Her family's welfare was important to her. Dorothy enjoyed family reunions, cookouts, reading Patterson books, Word Finds and the Baltimore Ravens Football Team. She was always ready to give words of wisdom and could be trusted by those who confided in her. Dorothy will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, outgoing love and keeping family close by. Her sister, Geraldine, had great influence in her life.

Dorothy's employment history was with Giant Food and the Naval Ordnance Station.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sister Mary Geraldine Cromwell, brothers John Roland Greenhow and James L. Greenhow, mother-in-law, Dorothy M. Plater and father-in-law, Joseph E. Plater, Sr and nephew Monte.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Logis; sons, Derrick and Brandon and daughter, Carol Plater; grandchild, Makaelah Plater; sister, Ruth Blueford; sisters-in-law, Janice Stokes, Sheila Thompson, Beverly Dennison, Rose Greenhow and Sue Greenhow; brother-in-law, Joseph E. Plater, Jr.; nieces and nephews; Carolyn Blackford, Christopher B. Cromwell, Donna Cromwell, Lynette Lee, Sherrie Jones, Terrence Greenhow, Lionel Greenhow, Myron, Mark and Martin Greenhow, Marlon Greenhow, Melanie Greenhow, Meredith Greenhow, Stephanie MacDowell, Jacqueline Williams, Monique Bluford and a host of other family and friends.

Her viewing will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11am on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at St. Mary's Church Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton, MD. 20735. Interment Church Cemetery.
