Obituary

Dorothy Cecelia Branson, 87of Bryans Road, Maryland

Dorothy Cecelia Branson affectionally known as Dot was born on January 8, 1935, in Clinton, Maryland to the late Walter A and Maude C (Young) Proctor. She was the baby of five siblings.  She went on to glory July 27, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was a very kind and lovable person; she had a heart of gold.

She graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in Upper Marlboro, MD. She enrolled into a business school and received a certificate. She was united in matrimony to the love of her life, the late Joseph Sylvester Branson, Jr. April 26, 1959, from this union they had four children Robert, Gary, Carolyn, Michael and Orlando (was like a son to her). Dot had a successful career retiring from the United States Postal Service, September 1992. She also, retired from the Charles County Public School System in March 2009, as a Food Service Worker. Dot was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church. She attended Mass faithfully until her health begin to decline. She was also a member of St. John's Catholic Church of Clinton, MD Ladies Auxiliary #210.

In her younger years she was on a softball team with her sister Hattie Adams and was an excellent player. She attended all sandlot baseball games wherever they were. Dot loved to shop, (shopped until she dropped, opened and closed the stores). She was always very stylish and kept up with the latest fashions. She was a member with the Foxy Ten Social Club and Elite Tour Traveling Club in Forestville, MD with Vivian Howard, Sandra Gray and many others. They went on practically every trip they had. She attended the Senior Citizens Center in Indian Head, MD enjoying the many different activities that were provided. She also enjoyed line dancing, hand dancing, gospel singing, oldies but goodies, watching the Washington Nationals Baseball team and the Washington Commanders. She collected teddy bears and decorated her house at Christmas with them. In her spear time she would spend numerous hours working in puzzle books. Even though technology has changed she still liked to work in the actual books. Dot also enjoyed spending time with her sister, brother and her grands and loved to keep in touch with her family and friends spending many hours on the phone. She would respond many times in conversations with these old sayings "hope forty quarters, and Jesus keeps the books". She remembered every grandchild and great grandchild birthday. She gave them a card or gift until her health started to decline.

Dot recited the Rosary every night with Gloria Jefferson and Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church Rosary Ministry.

She is called to rest with her husband Joseph S. Branson, Jr., parents Walter A. and Maude C. Proctor, brothers Thomas Proctor (Eleanor), James Proctor (Genevieve), grandson Robert Tywaughn.  Those left with beautiful and enduring memories are sister Hattie Adams (Henry), brother Joseph Proctor (Shirley), daughter Carolyn, sons Robert, Gary, Michael and Orlando, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, Special Friends Gloria Jefferson, Sandra Gray, Phyllis Thomas and Joan Bransome and a host of many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
