On Monday, April 13, 2026, our beloved Dorethea A. Dorsey, affectionately known as DeeDee, peacefully departed this life at her home in Waldorf, Maryland, at the age of 80.

Born on March 29, 1946, to the late Richard H. and Blanche Ennis Dorsey, Dorethea was the fourth of eleven children. She grew up surrounded by the love and lively spirit of her large family in Risen, Maryland, sharing life with nine sisters and one brother.

Dorethea was educated in the Charles County School System. Over the years, she worked faithfully in various positions throughout Charles and Prince George’s Counties, ultimately retiring from CVS. After retirement, she embraced one of her greatest joys, being the devoted babysitter who lovingly cared for and spoiled her nieces, nephews, and the children of close friends.

Quiet, pleasant, and always willing to lend a hand, DeeDee carried a gentle presence that made people feel loved. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching game shows and HGTV, completing puzzles, and doing word search books—simple pleasures that brought her peace and contentment.

Dorethea lived a full and joyful life. She gave her life to Christ many years ago and trusted Him wholeheartedly. Her faith, kindness, and gentle spirit touched countless lives. She will be deeply missed by the many relatives and friends who loved her dearly. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.

DeeDee was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Alice, Kay, Jane, Gale, Shirley, and Lana. She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Bridget Thompson; sisters, Margaret, Rose, Patricia (Joy), and Joyce (Lynn); brother, Richard Dorsey; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 10 am until time of service at 11 am in The Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment immediately to follow at Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, MD.
