Obituary

Donald Ray Hines left a legacy of love behind when he departed this life on February 1, 2025, at his home.  Donald was born on January 5, 1954, in Wilson, North Carolina to his late beloved mother and father, Queen Ester Hines and Jimmie Hines.

Donald was educated in the DC Public School System.   In 2016, Donald became an Accounts Receivable Clerk in Lexington, Kentucky; he also was a teacher's aide in Schuylkill, Pennsylvania.  After returning home in 2020, he persevered to make something of his life.   Because of his perseverance, Donald became a Peer Specialist in the Nehemiah Project, helping others to get on the "right track" of life. Out of several program candidates, he was selected to become part of the Georgetown University Jordan Peer Recovery Training Program.  Because of his commitment to the Program, he was awarded an internship along with employment opportunity with Total Family Care Coalition("TFCC").  After his tenure was completed at TFCC, he became a Peer Navigator with the Office of University Legal Services.  In this office, Donald became part of a professional family, and understood his purpose in life.

Because Donald was a returning citizen, he had the temperament, courage and determination to help those who were also returning to society. Donald always went beyond the call of duty to stretch his hand out to help others to become productive citizens. Donald was awarded a Letter of Accommodation for his excellent service.  Donald loved his job and was loved by his colleagues.  Donald started the tradition of passing out bubble gum to everyone in the office and this tradition is now carried on by others.
