Obituary

On Sunday November 6, 2022, Dolores L. Silliday departed this life. Dolores was born on May 2, 1933, in Indian Head, Maryland to the late Lawrence Vincent and Dorothy Mae Brown. She was the eldest of 11 children. Dolores was educated in the Washington, D.C. Public School System, graduating from Cardoza High School and later Cortez Peters Business School.

Dolores had a keen mathematical mind and spent her career in finance.  She began a long and lucrative career with Giant Food in Landover, Maryland. She ascended the ranks and retired as Accounts Payable Manager in 2001 after 38 years of service. She also served on the Board of Directors for United Way and Giant Food Credit Union. Both opportunities gave her immense pleasure and fulfilment.

Dolores was devoted to her family. She especially loved being surrounded by them at Christmas her favorite holiday. Christmas morning, she was up making her rounds by 4am ready to see how many gifts she had received.

Dolores had several passions. First, she loved fashion. She never left her home without being coordinated from head to toe. Strangers would stop to compliment her on how "cute" she looked. Second, she loved to travel. Cruising anywhere with her family made her extremely happy. She also enjoyed travelling with her favorite Cousin Romaine Thomas. Third, she loved the slots.  She could play all day and night. Casinos were her home away from home.

Dolores leaves to treasure her memory her loving daughters Olivia "Jackie" Trantham and Katrina (Calvin) Brown. Six granddaughters, Leia, Dana, LaShawn, Bridgett, Angela and Michelle; two grandsons Ronnell and Derrick; 10 great grands, 5 great- great grands and a host of family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas Silliday, her son Sylvester (Spunky) Purnell and daughter Deborah Rice.
