Dimple McKinley Walker of Fort Washington, MD transitioned January 22, 2026.
Dimple McKinley Walker was born on January 28, 1949, in Farmville, Virginia, to the late Mary Ellen Chambers Walker and Earnest Walker. He was the fifth of eight siblings and was raised in a close-knit family environment that shaped his lifelong devotion to family and service.
Dimple graduated from Carver-Price High School in Appomattox, Virginia, in 1967. In 1969, he was drafted into the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country with honor until 1975.
During his military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged. Following his service, Dimple began a long and distinguished career with the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. He dedicated 37 years to the Publishing Services Division, Photocopy Department, earning numerous awards and certificates in recognition of his commitment and excellence. He retired in January 2005.
In September 2004, Dimple married the love of his life, Sherrie Walker. Their journey together spanned 21 loving years. The two first met years earlier through the Parkland Bowling League, remained friends, and later reunited—proving that true connections always find their way back. Dimple seamlessly embraced his blended family and proudly took on his cherished role as “Pop Pop” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing many loving and supportive roles in their lives. He treasured family gatherings and reunions, often marveling at the size of the family and joking, “Your family is so big—I’ll never meet everyone.”
He enjoyed traveling with family to Appomattox, North and South Carolina, Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach, Florida, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. However, his greatest passion was fishing. Dimple especially loved his trips to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where he fished with his buddies and returned home with freezers full of fresh fish, generously sharing his catch with family and friends. A loyal and devoted football fan, Dimple proudly supported the Washington Redskins/Commanders and represented his team with pride in his attire wherever he traveled.
Dimple was a faithful and dedicated member of Union Wesley AME Church in Washington, D.C., until his illness. He served on the Usher Board, as a Trustee, with the Male Chorus, and with United Men in Christ. He also served as a church van driver and participated in Veterans Day programs. A proud member of the Virginia Club, Dimple was always willing to help wherever he was needed. He was also well known for being impeccably dressed on Sundays in coordinated suits and ties—often prompting the playful question of whether his wife dressed him.
Dimple leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Sherrie Walker; two daughters, Vanessa Walker and Judia Walker; a bonus daughter, Sherrell King (Tolaundo); and a bonus son, Michael Carter (Angelica). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren; his siblings, Ernest Walker (Laneuville), Benjamin Walker (Henrietta), Robert Walker (Sally), Eleanor Jackson, Roy Walker (Katherine), Joan Franklin (Ronald), and Mary Walker; his brother-in-law, Vernon Colbert (Denise); and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends.
