Alston, Diann Cooper (Age 50) of Capitol Heights, Maryland

Diann Cooper Alston was called home to glory suddenly on August 23, 2016 at the George Washington University Hospital, Washington, DC. She was the love of William "Billy" Alston's life.

Diann was born on December 17, 1965 in Sumter, SC, to the late Josephine Cooper and the late Rufus Prince. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her grand-parents the late Paul and Leola Cooper, brother Herman Monroe, Jr., step-son, Sean C. Walker, adopted parents Fleet and Edith Cooper and Jeremiah and Lucille Cooper, brother-in-law Freddie Alston and Walter Alston.

Diann received all of her Elementary education from R.E. Davis Elementary School, Sumter, SC. She graduated from Maywood High School in Sumter, SC in 1984. After graduation, Diane attended St. Augustine, College in Raleigh-Durham, NC where she received her Bachelors of Art Degree in Early Childhood Education.

To know Diann was to know her love for her husband, Billy and her godson Kevin. They were the apples of her eye. Although Diann and Billy had only been married since February 28, 2014, they had been long time companions, enjoying each others company in everything they did and often traveled to places like Florida, Las Vegas and other sites. Kevin drew out the mother in Diann. She loved and nurtured him as though she had given birth to him. He meant the world to her, and she having a love for sports, especially enjoyed watching him play basketball. She was proud of the growing young man he is today.

Diann accepted Christ at an early age and joined Goodwill United Presbyterian Church, in Mayesville, SC where she gave her life to Christ.

Diann loved sports as she played basketball in high-school and college. She was a great lover of football. Her favorite football team was the Carolina Panthers. She also shopped like sales were going to end!. Diann had a passion for children. She moved to the Washington, DC area in June 1988 to utilize her teaching skills. She was last employed in the school system at Galway Public School in Montgomery County, MD. However, she became a Caretaker until her health failed in August 2016.

She leaves to cherish many special memories her loving and devoted husband William Alston; two sisters Christine (Hardie) Cooper; Carolyn Cooper; step-sons, William and Jerel, step-grand children, Shawnna Proctor and Sean C. Walker, Jr. mother-in-law Mrs. Mary Alston, aunt, Ruth C. Simpkins; three sisters-in-law, Janice, Donna, Sabrina; three brothers in-laws; Ronald Alston, Floyd (Maxine) Alston, Kevin Alston, three god-children, Kevin Holtz, Gary LC Jones and Diamond Carson; two special nieces Ashley Humes and Detondra Cooper, two special nephews Devin McClintock, and Jermaal Cooper, one adopted brother Fleet Cooper and an adopted sister Mary Anderson, one grand-niece, two-grand nephews and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her Viewing 10am until Service 11am, Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD. Interment Heritage Memorial Cemetery, Waldorf, Maryland
