Obituary

Derrick Williams, 63 of Capitol Heights, Maryland.

Derrick Williams of Capitol Heights, Maryland transitioned December 4, 2021 in Largo, Maryland.

Derrick was born July 02, 1958 to Joyce Williams and the late James R. Williams in Washington, D.C. He found and married the love of his life, Shelia V. Williams.

Derrick was educated in Prince George's County Public Schools and graduated from Suitland High School in 1976. He attended UDC where he earned certificates that endorsed his expertise as an electrician. Derrick retired from M.C. Dean in Virginia, but continued his passion of being an electrician and master builder for family and friends. He is known as a "Jack of All Trades."

Derrick was born, loving shiny things that moved fast. He was an avid enthusiast of cars, airplanes, trucks, animated characters, westerns, and animals. He enjoyed watching football with his wife and tennis, only when Serena Williams was playing. Recently, he began a collection of his own recipes with the hope of publishing a cook book. He relished the tranquility of being near the water; on a beach, river, or ocean.  Derrick was a champion of fishing, winning many awards.  In the summertime, he loved bringing his children, grandchildren and friends together by hosting cookouts and attending local events. He enjoyed making his loved ones laugh with his sense of humor and dancing skills.

Derrick was preceded in death by his father, James R. Williams, sister, Deborah Archer and grandson, Takiyas Jones. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Shelia, mother in love, Loretta D. Barbour, loving and devoted children, Derricka Davis (Gabriel Davis, Jr.), Katiya "China" Williams-Moore, Tywon "Tiny" Wells-Williams, John Oden and Shenna Williams; stepchildren, Brandon Barbour, Riesha Barbour and Bianca Bean; seven grandchildren, nephew, Kevin Archer, Jr., one great nephew, and godson, Lorenzo Green.
