MAIR, DENISE ELIZABETH (AGE 50) OF WELCOME, MD
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. Psalms 116:15
Early in the morning on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Southern Maryland Hospital, our Lord and Savior opened His loving arms and welcomed home the courageous soul of Denise "Necie" Elizabeth Waters Mair. Her love of people, unwavering faith, witty humor and personable demeanor will be missed by all of her family, friends, church family, co-workers, church crew and biker community forever.
Necie was born on December 24, 1963 in Washington DC, as the fifth child of Blanche Waters and the late Lemuel Waters. Necie graduated in 1981 from Lackey High School in Indian Head, MD and attended North Carolina A&T University. In 1990, she married Steve Mair and they raised three sons, Justin, Devin and Nicholas. Necie began her 30 (+) years of employment with the Federal Government with her latest employment being with the Broadcast Board of Governors. Even in the midst of her health struggles, she continued to work when her condition permitted. This is a testament to her determination not to be defined by her illness.
Necie was a well-loved member of Christian Unity Baptist Church in Waldorf, MD where she was a major supporter of her Pastor and Family, and all of the Leadership of the Church. She could be seen at any service fully immersed in worship or dancing her victory dance. She was the founder and President of the Winning Souls to Christ Motorcycle Ministry and took great pride in hosting the Bike Blessing Service which was held annually May. She was also a faithful member of the Praise Team, Mass Choir, Dance Ministry, Social Media Ministry, Glorious Ladies of Worship, Transportation Ministry and the SALT Ministry.
In 2013, she launched her own "His Hands" Ministry for those battling cancer as well as their caregivers. This ministry was both for support and information and gave many people a closer look at the daily struggles of those diagnosed with cancer. She believed it was important for others to know that although she had highs and lows, she was still in God's hands.
Her push for awareness brought her into the public eye in the Southern Maryland area which lead to a beautiful article in American Cancer Society's on line magazine, a story on Live Fox 5, and honored at the Annual Pink and Black Survivor Gala in Virginia.
Necie was preceded in death by her father Lemuel Waters, maternal grandparents Samuel and Emma Gutrick, paternal grandparents, Janie and Freeman Waters, goddaughter/niece Bria Warren.
She will be missed but lovingly remembered by her mother Blanche Waters; children Justin Waters, Devin Mair and Nicholas Mair; goddaughter/niece Danyelle Washington; siblings Diane Warren (Phillip), Wayne Waters, Patricia Washington (Perry), Theresa Grant (Darryl); grandchildren, Justin Waters Jr., Julyssa Waters, Jalen Robinson, J'Nadia Waters and Jaiden Waters; dear family friend Pamela Jones; devoted friend Kevin West; friend of many years Brenda Duckett; and, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
