On March 23, 2024 Deborah Ann Jordan (peacefully) quietly transitioned to her heavenly home, to be with the Father and all those who preceded her. Deborah, affectionately known as Grammy by her grandkids and by Deborah Ann to her brothers and sisters, was born on September 2, 1954 in Baltimore City to the late Dorothy Mae Dunton (Smith) and Curtis Henry (Willie) Smith. She was educated in the Baltimore Public School system graduating from Western High School.
During Deborah's childhood, she was the captain of the Afro clean block on Fulton Avenue in Baltimore City, Maryland. She made sure the streets, sidewalks and the white marble steps were swept and scrubbed and cleaned, along with her siblings and other children in the neighborhood. Deborah was baptized and raised in the Pentecostal Holiness Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Mother Ruth Neal on Gilmore Street in Baltimore, MD. She sang in the Young People's choir and attended Sunday school with her siblings. She really enjoyed sewing and participated in the March of Dimes 20-mile Walk-a-thon.
Deborah spent seven years working at the Financial Aid Office at then Coppin State College in Baltimore Maryland. In 1979 she worked at Yoton Paint factory at Sparrows Point in Baltimore City in account receivable.
On April 23, 1983, she was united in marriage to Earl Darnell Jordan (40 + years) and from that union raised three children.
In 1983 Deborah worked for the American Psychological Association in Washington D. C. as a secretary. In 1991 Deborah began a long and distinguished career with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as an administrative assistant, retiring after 25 years of service. Deborah got the rare opportunity to live and work overseas, first at the American Embassy in Lima, Peru (1989-1991) and then the American Embassy Islamabad, Pakistan (1996-1999)
A lifetime parishioner (Member) of Metropolitan United Methodist Church, she served in numerous positions to include a member of the Methodist Women, the Usher Board (former President for over ten years) Finance Committee, Church Steward, Church Council, volunteer with the Community Food Pantry, managed the Back-Pak program, which provided food bags for six schools in Charles County and stepped up where needed. For her efforts she was honored as Mother of The Year in 2023
Deborah was a devoted wife, loving mom and grandmother. She looked forward to preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to be enjoyed by family and friends. She loved to travel to visit family and friends and go on cruises. She was an avid fan of the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Let's Make A Deal and various television shows.
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Curtis Smith, Brothers Michael, Curtis, James Edward and by her beloved Persian cat Snowflake. She is survived by her husband of 40+ years, Earl "Darnell". Children William (fiancé Lauren), Krystle (Tony), Michael (Carlethia "Lee Lee"), Brothers Larry (Carmen), Melvin, Gregory (Michelle "Shelly"), Kenneth, Gary (Deneen), Sisters Dorothy "Peaches" (Harold, decd.), Belinda (Terence), and Regina "Michelle" (Johnny).
