Deborah’s Life Journey…
Deborah Renee Johnson earned her angel wings on May 13, 2026. She was born on July 28, 1962, to Charles and Lydia Johnson. She grew up in Southeast Washington, DC, Oxon Hill and Temple Hills, Maryland. Deborah loved lift and lived it to the fullest without many complications. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Deborah was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church where she accepted Christ an early age. She enjoyed being an honorary member of the many organizations of the Church.
During her academic years, she attended Mildred Green Elementary School (1971), Garfield Elementary (1974), John Hayden Johnson Junior High School (1977), Frank W. Ballou Senior High School (1980), and lastly graduated from Virginia State University (VSU) (1984) earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.
In June 1984, Deborah began her 37 ½ years professional career with the Federal Government where she received numerous awards and accolades for excellence and dedicated service. Deborah began her career supporting the U.S. Department of Transportation where she served as a Program Analyst managing a $25 million annual budget for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA’s), Office of Planning, Environment and Realty. Deborah worked in various positions of the Federal Highway Administration. She retired on December 31, 2019. Deborah’s professional and academic accomplishments were outstanding, but she will be remembered best by those who worked with her for her well liked personality. She was a brilliant analyst who was a leader, team player, mentor, teacher, and someone who offered support to almost everyone who crossed her path. She was well liked and respected by all of her professional peers both inside and outside the FHWA, Office of Planning Environment and Realty for her easy going and kind spirit, who preferred laughing instead of frowning.
Deborah was a God fearing woman. She loved the Lord and thanked him daily. Some of her talents and hobbies included crafting, line dancing, crocheting, shopping, traveling, and dining with friends. Wishfully thinking, hitting the lottery BIG but played it only occasionally.
Deborah will be deeply missed but never forgotten! She was preceded in death by her brother, Gregory, her father, Charles, her mother Lydia, and oldest sister, Linda. Deborah leaves to cherish her memories: one sister, Machell of Clinton, MD; three brothers, Vincent (Barbara) of Oxon Hill, MD, Marvin (Karen) of Fort Washington, MD, Wayne (Yuneek) of Cheltenham, MD, six nephews; Kevin, Michael (Kelly), Anthony (Godson) (Vanessa), Terence (Darkesha), Wayne, Jr. (Dayna), and Justin (Godson), one great niece Micah, three great nephews, Levee, Trayce, and Cameron, and a host of great family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family Wednesday, May 27, 2026 from 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Thomas More 4275 4th St SE, Washington, DC 20032. Interment immediately to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.
