David Augustine "DAP" Proctor born January 29, 1935 to the late Herman and Mabel Proctor. He was a beloved father and husband and passed away on October 22, 2015. He is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, Irene Proctor, and children Angela Lee (Wayne), Vickie Pickeral (Greg), Andre Proctor (Claudine) and Karen Proctor. He leaves to mourn him his nine grandchildren, April (Howard), Aaron, Brian (Samantha), Erica (Mark Jr.), Amanda (Marcus), Brittany (Aaron Sr.), Jordan (Jimia), Janae (Ricky), Alex and honorary grandchild London. There are also eleven great grandchildren, Joseph Jr. (Joey), Aniyah, Ryan, Bryce, Gabriella, Aaron Jr. (LA), Anthony, Morgan, Sierra, Mark III, and Marcus. His siblings are Cyril (Lois), Steve (Carolyn), and Dilworth (Edna). Along with a host of other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

David has been a parishioner of St. Catherine's Catholic Church since the age of eleven. Those who have witnessed his attendance know that he would sit in the same pew every week. Upon the decline of his health David was no longer able to attend church and Mr. John Stacey, Eucharistic Minister visited him on Sundays to provide communion.

David attended Hampton University for a short time, but ultimately decided to join the U.S. Navy. He completed his years of military service during the Korean War on the USS Battleship New Jersey. David was honorably discharged and years later when the USS New Jersey battleship was commissioned in New Jersey, David went to visit it. Upon arrival, the tour guide said he knew more about the ship and had him conduct the remainder of the tour.

When he returned from the service, he met the love of his life, Irene, and married her on July 6, 1963. They raised their children and lived in Port Tobacco until the time of his death. David and Irene celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2013 where they renewed their vows.

David worked at the Naval Ordnance Station (NOS), Indian Head, MD until his retirement in 1989. He was affectionately known as "DAP" by friends and family. During his years at NOS, DAP would arrive to work early to set up for the card game they played until it was time to report for work. He was an avid crabber and continued crabbing up until the decline of his health. He was known to wear his US Navy ball cap, red suspenders and could often be seen pulling the infamous boat that was called "Dragon" down to Friendship and Benedict for a day of crabbing. He supplied crabs every year for family and friends.
Those who visited David at home could find him either cutting his grass, watching his westerns on TV or playing solitaire on the computer. He was an active man who enjoyed spending time with friends and family. David & Irene also hosted many family events including the annual Edna & Kelso family reunions.

David was a very kind man and was always willing to help everyone. Our hearts are filled with precious memories of him and he will be missed dearly.

His viewing will be held from 9am until time of Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, LaPlata, MD 20646. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
