Obituary

David William Hunt, 59 of Bethesda, Maryland.

Obituary

David William Hunt , a.k.a Dave, Davey, Dino, and Starmann , was born on July 18, 1959 in Washington, D.C. to Reiko Saito Hunt and the late Cleophus Thomas Hunt, Sr.  He was called home unexpectedly on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.  He was a longtime resident at the Bethesda Rehabilitation Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The comfort of knowing that he has gone to be with the Lord has made our sudden loss more bearable.

David was baptized at an early age and was a member of Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C.  He was later confirmed and served in the youth and adult choirs.

David attended C. Sharpe Health School in Washington, D.C from 1965 to 1977, where he graduated as 'Valedictorian.'  While studying there, he played wheelchair basketball, and started a musical band, winning first place at Theodore Roosevelt High School Talent Search. He also studied at Federal City College, which would later merge with other colleges to become the University of the District of Columbia.  For several years, he was employed at the Department of Energy where he worked as a clerk.

David had many talents and spiritual gifts.  He had an innate gift and love of music where he taught himself to play several instruments, primarily the lead and bass guitars, piano, and other percussions.  At a young age, growing up on Anacostia Road in Southeast Washington, D.C., he was often found teaching and mentoring aspiring guitarists on the front porch and, as an adult, he continued to teach a host of many others. He also had a gift of singing, and was a band manager and member of numerous bands that performed in the D.C. metropolitan area. He had an appreciation for many genres of music, but favored 'Rhythm and Blues' and 'Pop.' Some of his favorite artists were Earth Wind and Fire , The Isley Brothers , The Doobie Brothers, The Jackson Five, Prince , and Santana .

David was also skillful at creating artwork and was "good" with his hands. His artistic prowess included drawing, sculpturing, painting, metalworking, creating unique jewelry, etc. Armed with a soldering gun, a few tools, and sometimes some tape, he could fix anything from cars to computers which would last for years to come.

He also had a fondness for science fiction.  He was a "Trekkie" ( Star Trek ) and Star Wars fan and also enjoyed watching The X-Files .

While David possessed many spiritual gifts and talents, his greatest quality was that of 'helping others.' He was the resident "caregiver" of the stray cats that visited the nursing home grounds. Whatever he had, time, talent, treasure, love, care, concern, support, etc., he gave freely and without seeking recompense.  His life is a true testament of what it means to be a servant of God.

Dave is survived by his mother, Reiko Saito Hunt, siblings, Cleophus Thomas Hunt, Jr. (Dorothy), Michael Edward Hunt, Sr. (Janetter), Peter Anthony Hunt (Judy), Naomi Reiko Hunt-Mable (Alonzo); stepmother, Mary E. Hunt, stepbrothers, Romeo Mack (Regina), John Gerome Mack, sister, Tyree Chavon Hunt Smith (Robert); brother, Eric Thomas Lewis; stepbrothers, Thomas Reginald Marshall (Kimberly) and Donald Tobias Dickerson (Channel), siblings, Melissa Ophelia Hunt Jackson (Carlos) and Paul Marvin Hunt (Latasha); a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends at the Bethesda Rehabilitation Center.
