Minor, Darryl Benjamin (AGE 52) of Fort Washington, MD
DARRYL BENJAMIN MINOR, son of Helen and (the late) William Minor, was born June 19, 1963 in Georgetown Hospital in Washington, D.C. Darryl departed this life on February 9, 2016. He was educated in Maryland at New Hampshire Elementary Estates, Takoma Park Junior High School (1 year) He transferred and Graduated from Spingarn High School in 1982. He enjoyed wearing Spingarn Jersey number 52. There Darryl displayed his special skills In Basketball which led to a scholarship offers from many colleges.
Following 1 year at a College in Cumberland, MD, Darryl was recruited by Sports Officials where he received a Scholarship and enjoyed attending College and played basketball for 3 years in Washington State. Upon the death of his Father, Darryl decided to return home to Maryland to be with his Mother and Family.
He then pursued his interest in the field of computer systems and audio logistics. This enabled him to work in many different government positions where he received many awards and certificates. Working in this area of his career also allowed him to establish ongoing work and personal relationships with Ministers, Church Officials and Church Members. Darryl enjoyed his last career services at Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as Director of the audio video systems, where he was a master of his crafts. He Loved serving God's people and was always careful to edify God's House.
He would often tell people. "I am a drug addict, my Mother and Father drugged me to church all the time and as a result I became addicted to being In God's House and spending time with Church Family Members." Darryl gave his life to God and became a Member of Lincoln Park United Methodist Church.
While his love of life for sports, included basketball, a passion for the Redskins Team was where he was Blessed to attend many of the games, he counseled young boys and men about their dreams to play basketball and their desire to play Inter high or Big time, Many of them credited Darryl with their career success. He will always be remembered for that.
He was a dedicated person to his many personal and professional relationships and to his friends and family. He had a special and genuine love for his cousins Jocelyn and Chuckey who was there on many times to rescue him in various situations. He called that "Unconditional Love." He often said that was something that he learned from his Parents.
Darryl leaves behind fond memories to his Mother: Helen Minor, Children: Derrick, Darryl, Deon, India, Asia, Dorien, Kaiden and Kia, Sister: Paula (Kenneth), Nephew: Lowell "Duck", Niece: (Vanessa), Aunts: Lee Ella Hoaney (Charles) NY, Gertrude Minor Jackson (Olden) MD, Linda (William) MD, and June (George) NJ., Uncles: Andrew NY, and Lawrence (Janice) GA, Special Friends: Debra, Latese, Gina and Corlette, Family Friends: Dr. Moye, Randall, Big Eric, Tim, Dwayne, Ronald, Carlos, Manu and 1st Sgt. Lenwood Parker.
Viewing, 9a.m. until time of service 11a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Lincoln Park United Methodist Church, 1301 North Carolina Avenue, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002 Interment, Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD.
