Obituary

DaQuan Maurice Mitchell, son of Carolyn Mitchell and Maurice Gatling, Sr., was born May 18, 1994, in Washington, D.C. At an early age, DaQuan gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church on February 27, 2005. He was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 2014.

DaQuan was a man on a mission—he went to school to obtain his CDL Class B and was determined to get his Class A with all endorsements. And guess what? He did it! (We're pretty sure he'd want us to make sure everyone knew that.) He went on to drive school buses for Falcon Transportation. He also drove for various waste management companies.

Now, let's talk about DaQuan's true passion—FASHION. Quan was what you'd call a "Fashionistic" person (yes, that's a word if he says so). He didn't just get dressed; he arrived. His outfits weren't complete without the perfect matching shoes, jewelry, and, of course, the hat to top it all off. If you ever saw him in something that didn't match, you might want to check if he was feeling okay!

DaQuan had a way of making people laugh without even trying. His infectious laughter, genuine spirit, and that megawatt smile could brighten even the gloomiest day. He left lasting impressions on family, friends, and even random strangers who were luckyenough to cross his path.
When he wasn't making the world a more fashionable place, DaQuan loved working with Legos. If you ever tried to touch his finished creations—well, let's just say you might have been met with a serious side-eye. He also loved football, and as a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he was convinced they were always Super Bowl-bound—no matter what the record said.

DaQuan was a devoted and loving father, who enjoyed spending time with his three children. He had nicknames for each of them: Mirah Balls, Daddy Son and Tinka Poody.

On Sunday February 23, 2025, DaQuan joined hands with his heavenly Father. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ronald Galloway, Sr., Walter and Blenne Gatling; Uncle Quincy Gatling and Aunt Sharon Gatling Wiggins.

DaQuan leave to cherish his memory three children: Zaymirah Tomlinson, Hendrixx and Harleigh Norris. Mother Carolyn Mitchell, Father Maurice Gatling, Sr., Siblings: Eric Jenifer (Crystal), Maurice Gatling, Jr. (Teighlor), Tyree Beecham. Grandmother Gertrude Mitchell Galloway. Aunts: Rebecca Mitchell, Brenda Mitchell, and Sharnette Littlejohn. Uncles: Michael Wall, Quinton Gatling, and Jerome Gatling. Special Cousins: Alicia Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Whitney Mitchell, Derrick Crockett, Patrick Crockett, Stefan Mitchell, Tylisha Crockett, KVonna Weldon, and DeVonte Mitchell. Best Friend Jauntez Chase and a host of relatives and friends. DaQuan may have left us too soon, but if heaven has a dress code, we know he's up there making sure everyone is stepping out in style.

On Sunday, February 23, 2025, Daquan Maurice Mitchell transitioned to eternal life.
