OBITUARY
Mrs. Danette Alicia "Potatoes" Hemsley (Davis) transitioned peacefully to eternal life at the University Of Maryland Medical Center on July 7, 2016 in Baltimore, MD at the age of 57.
Danette is survived by her parents, Daniel Davis and Judith Agnes Scroggins-Lee; Daughter; Alicia Gardner, Son-in-Law; David Gardner ;Grandsons; Denzel Gardner and Alonzo Gardner, Siblings; Daryl Lee, Francis Lee Jr., Jewel Lee, Sister-in-Laws; Avis Hemsley, Evette Shade, Kathy Myers; Brother-in-Law; John Hemsley, Nieces; Mercedes Maddox and Kimberly Lee; Nephews; Jeston Lee (Rena Lee) ,Dean Lee(LaTasha Lee), and a host of relatives and friends . She is preceded in death by Step-father Francis Lee Sr., Brother; Marvin Scroggins, Sister; Donna McPherson.
Danette Hemsley was born on August 17, 1958 in Marbury, MD to Daniel Davis and Judith Scroggins. She graduated from La Plata High School in 1977. She earned a certificate in Early Childhood Education at the College of Southern Maryland. She married Mark Hemsley her high school sweetheart in 1977. Her daughter and grandchildren remember her as a gentle and kind mother and grandmother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Danette worked as a teacher for the Head Start program at F.B. Gywnn, Judy Hoyer Center at Dr. Mudd Elementary, Goddard Children's Center, and Little Angels childcare center. Danette was extremely talented in art and music. She drew a wall mural of sea animals for the Little Angels Child Care Center in La Plata, MD. She received many awards from the Charles County fair for her artwork. She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary Knights of St. Johns. She could play many instruments.
She received the Gold State Seal from Annapolis, MD for her artwork. Her artwork was displayed at the Cochran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. She played the lead role as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz play when she surprised everyone with her angelic voice. She loved bowling and won many awards for high averages and several first and second place awards at bowling tournaments. She was a generous individual who loved people and who was passionate about encouraging her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and always created new recipes. Danette was an avid Redskins football fan .She never missed watching a game. Danette enjoyed nature and listening to music. She was most at peace when she was walking or sitting outdoors.Danette loved to spend most of her time with her two grandchildren. They were the apple of her eye. She gave them the best gift of all quality time and unconditional love.
