Dan David (Dee) Smith departed this life on Saturday, August 26, 2023.  He was born in Prairie, Wilcox County, Alabama to the late Frank Smith and Rachael Hawkins.  Dan was the third oldest of 8 children.  He married Eula M. (Yow) Smith in 1955 and from that union 5 children were born; in 1970 he married Emma L. (Thomas) Smith and within this union they raised two children.  Dan confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Zion M.P. Church of Selma, Alabama.

Dan retired from the Alabama Department of Public Safety, Alabama State Trooper Academy after 17 years of service, (where he worked as a Supervisory Custodial Worker) from 7/25/1979 to 9/1/1996.  He was previously employed by the Mobile Area Water & Sewer System.

Dan Smith is preceded in death by his wife Emma L. Smith and 7 brothers.  He leaves to cherish his memory:  his sons, Reginald B. Smith and Westerfield (Lozine) Hayes Sr.; five daughters, Jeanette M. (Curtis) Burr, Dannie D. (Walter) Smith-Newby, Rachael E. Smith, Pamela R. Smith and Patricia (Jerome) Houser; 12 grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
