Obituary

EDWARDS, CORRINNE DENISE (AGE 41) OF TEMPLE HILLS, MD

"May the work she has done, speak for her life."

On Friday, September 7, 2012, Ms. Corrinne Denise Edwards of Temple Hills, MD suddenly left this life for one eternal at the Fort Washington Hospital Center, Fort Washington, MD.

Corrinne, who was more affectionately known as Denise, was the daughter of Cora and Joseph Edwards. She was born in Antigua, West Indies on November 9, 1970. Denise attended All Saints Secondary School where she graduated in 1987. After graduating, she ultimately became employed as a Banker. However, she had such a passion for hair that Denise would take clients in the morning prior to leaving for work. Cosmetology was her passion and it was at the prompting of her sister, Cicely, that she traveled to America to study cosmetology.

Denise was a Cosmetologist and Educator by trade and was very focused on her business. She always sought to expand her knowledge of the business. She attended Dudley Beauty College and graduated in 2001. She also became a Cosmetology Instructor for Dudley Beauty College, Bennett Career Institute and the University of the District of Columbia. She was an active member of the Hair & Makeup Union. She also was an Assistant to the Designer at Studio Theatre and Arena Stage; worked with the "running crew" at the Fords Theater in Washington, D.C. and was a member of the local hair crew at the Kennedy Center. One of the most memorable accomplishments that Denise achieved, was going on National Tour with the cast of "Dream Girls" as an Assistant to the Supervisor of Hair and Make-up. Her knowledge and skill regarding her craft extended to her position with Milady – Cenage Learning as an Author, "Natural Hair & Braiding" and also Editor. In 2009, she became self–employed as a continuing educator for State Board Prep & Natural Hair and Braiding. Denise was currently enrolled at Maryland University for her degree in Education Studies.

In addition to hair, she also enjoyed attending the theatre, and listening to music especially Gospel, R&B, and Jazz. Denise always had a positive outlook on life. She was very friendly, known to be a giver and had a sincere heart. She was outspoken but also deeply religious. Her family was very proud of her achievements especially since they were accomplished in such a short time frame.

Denise also enjoyed spending time with her family especially at barbeques, graduations, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Family and friends had the most influence on her life. She always had a smile for you and words of encouragement. She was fun loving, with a big hearty laugh and was always the life of the party. If she had words for future generations, they would be "stay focused on your goals and dream big!"

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her three sisters, Cicely Edwards; Stephanie Gregory and Dorothea Martin (Arthur), aunts; Laurel Prophet and Daisy Edwards, uncles; Rex, Delvin, Winston, George, McKenzie and George II Edwards; also surviving nieces and nephews, Gerena Gregory, Tariq Martin and Ajani Martin, her Maryland family and closest friends; Gregaroy Bazemore, Verna Carrington, Gregory Carrington, Patricia Shields, Karen Willis, Gary Herrod and Michael Neal; other family and a host of friends.

Her viewing will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012, from 9am until time of Service 11am at the Westphalia United Methodist Church, 9363 Darcy Road Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. Interment Monday, September 17, 2012 in the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.

Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD.
