Obituary

Butler, Cornellus Levin (Age 49 ) of Bryans Road, Maryland.

Cornellus Levin Butler, beloved son of Marion A. Butler and the late James A. Butler, was called home suddenly on August 15, 2012. He started his life's journey on January 6, 1963.

He was educated in the Prince George's County public school system, graduating from Friendly High School.

Cornellus, known to many as Moon, was a caring, kind, patient, and humble man who loved nothing more than spending time with his family. The time he spent with his Mother was the most precious. He also enjoyed reminiscing with friends he met while residing in Accokeek, Bryans Road, Waldorf, and Chapel Hill, not to sell short his friends outside of his residences. He had a wealth of knowledge and had no problem sharing it. If you needed someone to talk to, he would lend an ear; if you needed directions, he was the one to call on; and if you needed advice, he was the go-to man. He had a passion for cooking, enjoyed listening to music and playing keno. He kept laughter alive, and would joke about anything and everything, whether it be serious or otherwise. Even after the loss of his sight, he continued his passions in a joyous manner.

His time spent in food service management was what he liked best. He managed many of the local food establishments. He enjoyed interacting with his co-workers and patrons. He continued to work until he was unable to do so.

In addition to his father, James "Jimmy," he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Elizabeth Brown and Angie and Douglas Butler; aunt, Margaret Butler; uncles, Bernard, Douglas, Harry, and Johnny Butler; and, nephew, Adrian Short.

He is survived by his mother, Marion Butler; sons, Desmond, Michael and Brandon Butler, daughter, Dominique Butler, brother, Marcellus Butler, sisters Ponjola Short, Cynthia and Denise Butler, Desiree Lewis (Pat); aunts, Alice Gray (Joseph) and Virginia Butler; nephews Antoine Short (Shanetta) and Terrell Lewis; nieces, Kyrstle, Brittany, and Janelle Lewis, Nicole Butler; great nieces, Amani Price and Paris Hayes; and Kevin Briscoe who he thought of as a son, along with a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 25th 9am until time of Service, 11 am at Grace United Methodist Church, 11700 Old Fort Road, Fort Washington Maryland. Interment, Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf Maryland. Arrangements, Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, Maryland.
