IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Connie M.
Thompson
March 30, 1931 – August 31, 2022
Connie May Thompson entered this life on March 30, 1931, born to Mary Sharperson ("Rinie") in Cope, South Carolina, the oldest of six children, where she attended school, and upon adulthood, worked for the Traywick family until she left for Washington, D.C. in 1953 in pursuit of other opportunities.
During this time, she gave birth to three children that she raised on her own: Marsha, Sandra, and Darnell.
One day, while waiting at the bus stop on the way to her job, she met Joseph Thompson, who relentlessly pursued her until she finally agreed to a date. The rest, as they say, is history.
Connie, her husband Joe and their daughter Jackie moved into the Thompson family home in Bryans Road, Maryland in 1975, where Connie, who was now retired, was able to pursue her many passions, which included crossword puzzles, word searches, gardening, and a multitude of different arts and crafts, introduced to her by her sister-in-law Mill including placemats, Christmas ornaments, even stained glass window decorations. It only took you bringing something to her one time and she would dissect that craft, and then make it her own. To say she was pretty handy with a hammer and saw is an understatement. She was so known for her carpentry skills that the grandson of her sister-in-law Pearl needed help with a school project when he was in second grade. Pearl was having trouble trying to help him. Finally, through a lot of tears, he said "Can we just ask Aunt Connie to help, she can build anything."
Her flower beds bloomed profusely with exotic flowers, causing strangers to stop and ask to take pictures of her hibiscus. She shared many of her flowers and was known to just dig a part of a plant right out of the yard and give to an admirer. The same thing can be said about the annual vegetable garden that she tended alongside her husband, where the community of Bryans Road and beyond enjoyed the fruits of their labor.
Connie enjoyed the companionship of the mall walkers at St. Charles Towne Center. After walking a few laps around the mall, she and Joe would enjoy a cup of coffee as they sat with friends, exchanging jokes and catching up on things they may have missed.
She was a down to earth, no nonsense, quick-witted, independent, some might say "stubborn" woman. When it was least expected, she would say something that caused one to burst into uncontrollable laughter.
She had her own way about telling people she cared about them without saying it. She was very generous, always giving something to others, even advice they didn't even know they needed.
Connie transitioned home on August 31, 2022. She was the devoted wife of the late Joseph H. Thompson and was preceded in death by her mother Mary, her brother Joe and her daughter Marsha Simmons (Al).
In addition, she leaves behind to mourn her siblings Virginia Sharperson, Shirley Kennerly, and Rev. Phillip (Ruthie Mae) Sharperson; her children Sandra Goodwin, Darnell Sharperson, and Jacqueline (Colton) Hall; her grandchildren NaShara (Dirk) McClaeb, Ashley and Lauren Goodwin, Darius Simmons, Shawn England, Terrance (Tiffany) Hall, and Jordan Hall; her great-grandchildren Rowan McClaeb and Raelynn Mann, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
