Cloyd McAllister, Jr., age 82, of Westminster, Maryland

Cloyd McAllister, Jr., was born March 7, 1941, in Warthen, Georgia to the late Cloyd McAllister, Sr. and Rosener Jackson.  He departed this life on January 22, 2024, at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.

We thank God for sharing him with us for 82 years.  He lived a good life and was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He was a graduate of Central High School in Newark, New Jersey.  He also attended OCS, which is the military Officers Candidate School.  He was very bright and very ambitious.

After serving for years in the Marine Corps and then the Army Reserves, Cloyd joined the Newark Police Force.  He was known as the no-nonsense policeman.  He served for 6 years before he became medically disabled to serve.

Cloyd was very active in church.  He worshipped until his health failed him.  He was awarded a license to preach the gospel, earning him the title, "Minister Cloyd McAllister."

He leaves behind five children; Ronald McAllister, Danielle Cains, Marla McAllister, Luis McAllister and Shaun Donnelly; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, David Harris, one sister, Geneva Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

As I think of Cloyd, I am reminded of how close we were.  Even in his illness, he came from New Jersey to Maryland to help me bury my wife, Annie.  Throughout the service he was concerned about me, asking if I was alright.  This is true love, real concern, brotherly love.  My brother is no longer suffering, no longer in pain, he is at rest.  "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."  He will truly be missed!

His Viewing will be 10:00 am, until time of Service, 11:00 am, Friday, February 9, 2024 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.  Interment, 1:00 pm, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
