IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clinton Edward
Carter, Jr.
June 1, 1951 – August 16, 2018
Clinton Edward Carter, Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as "Butch," was born June 1, 1951 to the late Helen and Clinton Carter, Sr. in Brooklyn, New York.
For a short season, Butch was in the U.S. Air Force but found that he was better suited for civilian life. He worked at Brookdale Hospital and at the Bronx Municipal Hospital in New York City. He prospered in the position at Bronx Municipal, receiving Service Excellence awards for years in service as a Hospital Police Officer.
Butch will always be a native "New Yorker" but in 1995 he and his family moved to Portsmouth, Virginia. While in Virginia he became employed as a contractor providing services to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a Security Supervisor until his retirement.
Butch was a member of St. Paul Community Baptist Church while residing in New York and transitioned to Grove Baptist Church once he moved to Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a man of many talents. He played the drums and the tambourine and he was a member of the Children of God church choir. He studied the word of God and spoke of it until his last days. His love for the Lord was obvious not only in his talk but also evident in his everyday walk through life.
Some of his favorite pastimes include spending time with family, dancing, sports, music and bar-b-que's. He enjoyed the sounds of Jazz, Gospel and Rhythm &Blues. With his running man and his whistle in tote he was always the life of the party at all of the family events. His favorite sports were basketball, football, and baseball and as much as he loved family, both near and far, he was especially proud of his children.
On August 16, 2018, while at the MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital in Clinton, Maryland, Butch transitioned from this life to one eternal. He will always be remembered as a man who reverenced his relationship with the Lord; a man that was always energetic, compassionate, and supportive; and a loving husband, father and friend.
In addition to his parents, Helen and Clinton Carter Sr., he joins in glory Lonnie McNeil (cousin), Embry Branch (father in-law), Alexander Graham (grandfather), Nettie Graham (grandmother), and Charles Henderson (brother).
