Obituary

MILLER, CLAYVON (AGE 82) OF FORT WASHINGTON, MARYLAND

Clayvon Miller, slipped away from family and friends on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the home of his beloved daughter, Renee, and son-in-law, Tony King in Oxon Hill, Maryland, who had been caring for him since his brief illness that rendered him unable to stay at home alone.

Miller, as he was affectionately known, was born April 22, 1933 in Zebulon, Georgia. He was the baby boy of fourteen (14) children born to the late Cary Sr., and Middie Miller. He was educated in Pike County, Georgia and after working with his family as a farmer, Clayvon enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 and served until 1954. Upon his discharge from the military, he relocated to the Washington, D.C. area and met the love of his life, Mamie Coleman, whom he married July, 12 1958. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Mamie Miller (of 46 years); his thirteen (13) siblings: Cary Jr., Ned, Elgin, Charles, Benjamin, Robert (Bob), Henry, Fannie, Lulu, Annabelle, Corrine, Lola, and Anna Mae; and grandchild, Valiska Coleman (Boo Boo).

Clayvon was able to secure a future for his family. He worked for the Federal Government, Department of Defense, where he received many award recognitions for his faithful and dutiful service to his country. Clayvon, also known as Daddy Miller, believed in taking care of the family, thus he provided a home for many family members who became sick and unable to care for themselves, as well as, a place of refuge for those who were transitioning from the south to the north for employment.

Daddy Miller, was just that a "real role model" to many young people of what the great American dream could be if you applied yourself and worked hard, you could and would be successful in life. He loved his granddaughter, who he raised as his only daughter, and later assisted in the raising of his two great grandchildren: Tiara (Kadel) and Vonn (Leticia). These three were his life, joy and hope for a better future.

Clayvon was known by several names: Miller, Daddy Miller, Grand Dad, Boss Man, Old Man, Uncle Clay, Cuz, Mr. Miller and Mack Daddy, just to name a few. Daddy Miller, as he was affectionately known, was a quiet man, yet strong and very courageous. When able to travel he attended family reunions and was the life of the reunion. All the family meeting him for the first time would leave with an impression of "wow, what a good man and leader we have among us."

Daddy Miller faithfully attended the Grace United Methodist Church where he received the right hand of fellowship from the late Revered Bolden and re-dedicated his life under Pastor Robert Slade. He was also a member of the Chapel Hill Citizens Association and Goldsetter's Club. In his younger years when he was active you could find him at Rosecroft Race Track or a good ole house party card game.

Miller leaves to cherish his memory: Grandchildren: Renee King (Tony) Michelle Coleman, Tonya Fannin (Samuel), Tracey Coleman, Walter Jr. Coleman, Katherine Coleman-Smith (Michael), Wanda Coleman, Deeddra Coleman, Darin Coleman (Marika), Misharah Mathews, Step grandsons, Anthony and Kevin Stoddard (Florence), 23 great grandchildren; 20 great great grandchildren, Nieces: Evelyn Wood (Nathan); Doris Dyson, Stella Capers, Amy Johnson (Christopher), Delores Hamrick, Judy Jackson, Jane Sands, Nephews: Delano Johnson, Floyd Miller (Anna Bee) and Walter Berry (Lola) Lester Miller, George Miller, a devoted cousin Dr. Diana Chandler Banks (Walter) and a host of, other relatives and friends who will miss the life of Daddy Miller, who has gone to be with the Lord Jesus Christ.
