Obituary of Clayton Washington

Clayton Dunbar Washington, Jr., the son of the late Clayton D. Washington, Sr. and Angelique M. Washington was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on July 19, 1945. On April 18, 2019, he quietly put on his gold and white wings to fly peacefully home.

Affectionately known to his family as "Sonny", he was educated in the public schools of Harrisburg, PA. He was christened at Wesley AME Zion in Harrisburg, PA and Helen and Douglas Dickerson were assigned as his Godparents. Clayton would always find time to give a hand up, and was always willing to help those in need. His heart was about giving and helping others! This was what he lived. He'd be helping you and fussing at the same time, but his help was indeed very sincere.

Most of his adult life, Clayton was Dad, Grandpa, Big brother, God brother, and God father to those he loved, and those who loved him. In his later years, he gave his time and talents to his son and grandchildren and had memorabilia of them in various places in his home. He was a Super fan of the Washington Redskins, especially when Doug Williams helped to win Super Bowl XXII. He also was an avid CNN cable-tv news enthusiast, and loved discussing current issues affecting all of us.

Mr. Washington served his country as an active member of the U.S. Airforce for four years. He became a Communications Specialist that trained him to work in the telecommunications field. Throughout his life he worked with several government organizations to include the U.S. Army Communications Command, Fort Huachuca Az, but is well known as supervisor in the telecommunications center and Network Management Branch at Military Traffic Management Command (MTMC) , then with the Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC). Including his military and civilian service, Clayton served over 40 years with the federal government.

He will be remembered fondly by his son Rashad Tucker, daughter-in-law Brittani, grandson Dreux, and granddaughter Dahlia all of Maryland; friend Velta Montgomery of Washington D.C.; care giver, friend & God son, Eric Clatterbuck of Maryland; special friends: Michele Pence of Maryland, Norma McKayhan of Virginia, Carol Dortch of Maryland, Seevah Johnson of Maryland, Ed Rivers of Virginia, and Carolyn Blackmon of Virginia.
