Clarence Joseph "Ace" Thomas, 85 of Newburg, Maryland.
In the early morning on Friday, April 9, 2021, the trumpet sounded and Clarence "Ace" arose to the call. It was time to leave this world of sorrow and pain to spend an eternity with the Lord.
Clarence Joseph Thomas, known as "Bubba" or "Ace" by his family and friends, was born on July 15, 1935 in Wayside, Maryland to the late Robert C. Thomas and Margaret M. (Contee) Thomas. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Bertha Ann Thomas and siblings: James Thomas, Thelma Thomas, Robert Thomas, Howard Shade, Thomas Shade, David Thomas, Mary Stokes, Berta Glover, Margaret Thomas and grandson Marcus Gray.
He was educated in Charles County, Maryland public school and attended Bel Alton High School. Over the years, Clarence tried his hands at a few jobs (School Bus Driver and Car Salesmen) but he would be more noted as the "Gas Man". His 47 years as a Service Technician working for various gas companies such as Truman, Par and United where he would retire from.
As a faithful member, you could always find Ace, participating and serving at his beloved Shiloh Community United Methodist Church: President of the Usher Board.… " I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness " Psalms 84:10 Also serving as a member of the Board of Trustee and Men of Ministry. Ace would be remembered for the outstanding gospel programs that brought well-known groups to the Newburg area.
Ace, was a dedicated proud longstanding member of the W.A.C. Hughes Lodge #1053 of Newburg, MD.
Outside of church and the Elks Lodge, Ace, enjoyed traveling with The Soul Saviors, participating with The 6 of Us Social Club (Honorary Member) and can't leave out watching the Soap Operas "The Young and the Restless", "The Bold and the Beautiful" and his Western movies.
Ace, leaves to cherish his memory, sister Eva Grant of California; special cousin Apostle Margaret Johnson of Salisbury, MD; his sons: Kevin (Hattie) of Stone Mountain, GA and Nathaniel "Nate" (Barbara "BJ") of Newburg, MD; grandchildren: Sean Grant, Noah Thomas, Nicole Thomas and Martin Gray; godson: Ivan Hicks; cousins, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, devoted friend Ms. Vivian and special friend Cee Cee Ford.
Viewing, 9:00 a.m. until time of Service, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Shiloh Community United Methodist Church, 12705 Shiloh Church Road, Newburg, Maryland 20664. Interment, Church Cemetery.
The family is honoring the CDC Covid Guidelines, wearing a mask and social distancing, to protect the health and well-being of family and friends.
