HARRIS, CLARENCE EDWARD, JR. (AGE 66) OF WALDORF, MARYLAND

Born on December 29, 1954 to Deacon Clarence Edward Harris Sr. and Mrs. Virginia Colbert Harris, he was one of eleven children born to this union. Clarence Edward Harris Jr. peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, April 1, 2021.

Clarence was baptized in the name of Jesus at the age of "accountability", 12 years old and was filled with the Holy Ghost on April 30, 1981, at The Way Back to Pentecost Church, Washington, D.C. He was raised by God-fearing parents, who mentored him through their walk with God as well as many older saints that left a legacy for him to follow. Clarence served in many capacities/roles, in the church and community, over the years: administrator treasurer, deacon, Sunday Christian Education teacher, ministry leader, preacher, executive board member, teacher and devotion leader. He served with the DC, DE, and MD District Council Ushers and went on to become an International Usher of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW) Inc. Dr. Harris was a native of Washington, D.C., started his education as a child in the District of Columbia Public School System. He earned his high school diploma from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1973, graduating with honors. With encouragement from his parents, he furthered his education by earning his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from the George Washington University, Washington, D.C., in May 1978. Believing in the importance of education, Clarence went on to further obtain his Masters of Science in Engineering (MSE) degree from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C. , in February 1983.

Dr. Harris had been employed with the Department of the Navy Naval Air Systems Command since 1978 working on critical and emerging technologies for the U.S. warfighters. He retired in December 2016 with honor as an Engineering Supervisor at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, mentoring junior and as well as journeyman engineers. While he was blessed to obtain his secular education, Clarence felt a call on his life to use his education for the purpose that God would later reveal to him. In his preparation to be used by God, Dr. Harris started taking courses offered at Aenon Bible College, Indianapolis, IN. He later started coursework at the International Apostolic University of Grace and Truth, Indianapolis, IN., where he later received his Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) degree July 1999 under the tutelage of Dr. Phyllis E. Heath. In July 2000, Dr. Harris received the Doctor of Christian Education (D.CEd.) degree from the International Apostolic University. He became a licensed minister of the PAW, Inc., December 1999 and was ordained in July 2011 at the DC, DE, and MD District Council by Bishop Charles E. Johnson, then Diocesan Bishop. Clarence was a faithful member of the True Apostolic Church since its initiation in April 1990. He was under the leadership of the late Elder Dr. Charlie L. Plummer until 1999,when Elder Dr. Plummer handed the mantle to his son, James H. Plummer, Sr.,  who now serves as the Senior Pastor.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents: Clarence E. Harris Sr. and Virginia Harris; brothers: Gregory Harris and Melvin Harris. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 37 years, Faye Harris; five children: Clarence Harris III (Lydia), India Eadie (David Sr.), Darius Harris (Chioma), Kenard Harris Sr. (Jillian), and Korea Harris; six grandchildren: David Jr., Jael, Kenard Jr., Dawson, Nara, and Jude; siblings, a host of other relatives, church family and friends.

Dr. Harris loved too many hymns and songs to identify a single favorite, but one of his favorite scriptures is Isaiah 40: 30-31- " Even the youth shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint ."
