Obituary

Clarence "Rabbit" Edward Gray, 89, of Indian Head, Maryland.

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, Clarence ("Rabbit") Edward Gray, 89, of Charles County, Maryland peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home. Clarence was born September 6, 1935 in Chicamuxen, Maryland. He was the youngest of eight children born to the late Sylvester and Alberta Gray.

Clarence graduated in 1953 from the Charles County Public School system. In 1955 he answered the call to duty and enlisted in the United States Navy where he served until his honorable discharge in 1959. After returning from active duty, Clarence continued his service to the federal government for an additional 33 years as an employee at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, the Naval Ordnance Station, and Research and Development at the Stump Neck Annex until his retirement in 1990.

On November 11, 1967, he was united in holy matrimony to Joyce Elizabeth Wilkerson and from that union two sons were born, Derrick and DeWayne. Clarence was extremely devoted to his family. Whenever there was a problem, you bet he had a solution. He was truly a people person. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and it was evident in his service to his church for many years until his health prevented him from actively participating. Clarence was a powerful prayer warrior and an ardent member of several choirs over the years at Alexandria Chapel. The congregation would rejoice when he would grace us with a solo. One of Clarence's favorite quotes was "I lift my hands to thee, no other help do I know. If you should withdraw yourself from me, where O' where would I go?" 'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.'"

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Joyce; four brothers, Marshall, Everett, Cleveland and Charles and three sisters Constance, Lillian and Roxie.

Clarence leaves behind to cherish his memory, his two sons Derrick and DeWayne Gray; seven grandchildren, Erica Hart, Lisa Stringer, Derikia Gray, Veronica Stringer, Lamont Gray, Mia Thomas, Terria Coles and Tyler Harvey, four great-grandchildren, Dior Templeton, Taraj Fenwick, Takiera Gant and Colin Montgomery and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
