IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Major
Watson, Sr.
May 11, 1927 – March 31, 2017
Profile of Life
Charles Major Watson, Sr. was born, Wednesday, May 11, 1927 in Westwood (Brandywine), Maryland to Albert Galantine and Rosie Eleanor Watson. He attended Prince George's County Public Schools and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in Croom, Maryland. Shortly after graduating, Charles was inducted in the United States Army on February 26, 1952, where he served two years of active duty until being transferred to the Army Reserves in 1954 and honorably discharged on February 25, 1960.
Charles, or better known as "Charlie," after being discharged from the military, began his career working for Prince George's County Government in the Department of Public Works. During the same timeframe, Charlie also worked for the state as a youth counselor at Boys Village in Cheltenham, Maryland retiring in 1981 after 25 years of service.
On December 31, 1969 Charles was joined in Holy Matrimony to Doris Eleanor Johnson and lived happily for 47 years until he departed this life.
To Charlie, after his family, sports were his world. He spent many Sundays on the sidelines of his brother Albert's minor league baseball team and loved watching football, baseball, basketball, and later in life golf. On commercial breaks, he would play his hand in a game of cards. He knew every foul, misplay, and bad call that happened during each game. He memorized every sports channel and if you wanted to know when a team was playing, who they were playing, or what channel a game was on, Charlie was the person to call.
Peacefully, on Friday, March 31, 2017 in the comfort of his home, Charles "Charlie" Major Watson, Sr. transitioned from this life to be with the Lord.
He joins in glory his daughter Charlene, mother and father Albert and Rosie Watson, brothers Albert, Joseph, Elwood, and sister Joyce.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife Doris, children: Thyssen, Iola Denise, Charles "Buckey" (Gigi), Garry (Lydia), Orlando (Vanessa), Donna, and Charles "Jr;" grandchildren: Darius (Jenifer), Phillip, Itika, Janae, Charles Jr, Corey, Christian, Cody, and Chasmine; great-grandchildren: Darius Jr, Mariah, Ashaad, Charles III, Chance, Camille, Choyce, and Chrue; sister: Alice; brothers: Hugh and Howard and a host of family and friends.
