Charles Edward Simpson, Sr., affectionately known as "Mickey," departed this life peacefully surrounded by family and love. Mickey transitioned gracefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at George Washington University Hospital, in Washington, D.C. Mickey was born in Washington, D.C., on July 25, 1942 to the late Howardine Jackson and Raymond Jackson, Sr. A native of Charles County, Mickey was educated in the Charles County Public Schools system. Mickey went on to fulfill his dream career as a carpenter, building many structures from new and renovated homes to commercial properties. Mickey then moved on to become a maintenance worker at Claridge House of Alexandria in Alexandria, VA where he worked for over twenty-five years. Mickey later retired in 2009 at the age of 67. He went on to experience the joys of life in retirement.

Mickey was a man of few words, yet he was a master craftsman when it came to working with his hands. He enjoyed building and repairing just about anything you could imagine. Mickey took pride in building a new kitchen and deck for his beloved mother. He had a giving heart and was always willing to use his craft to help those in need, especially his family. Mickey enjoyed landscaping his yard while secretly competing with his neighbors for the best manicured lawn.

Mickey loved to travel and was blessed to have experienced many memorable family vacations. One of Mickey's joys in life was spending time with family. He would move mountains for his family. Mickey also enjoyed sitting on his deck or in his yard shooting the breeze with some of his lifelong buddies Curtis Jackson, Dave Waters and the late Francis Burns. One of Mickey's favorite pastimes was sitting by the waterfront, people watching. Mickey cherished the gift of laughter and laughed out loud quite often. He was quite the comedian. Mickey's favorite scripture was Psalm 27. He would always say the Lord's Prayer for comfort and peace.

Mickey was an avid football fan of the New York Giants and was able to attend a game at Giants Stadium with his family. Mickey enjoyed watching college football, golf, horse racing and every episode of "Big Brother.'' Mickey also enjoyed word search puzzles, nature walks, riding his bike, and watching a good movie at his favorite theater, Xscape movie theater in Brandywine, MD. Mickey had a love of gospel music and rhythm & blues.

Mickey was delivered a life altering diagnosis in November 2019 and was immediately surrounded by his family and friends. He was showered with love, compassion and care by his children from the date of diagnosis to the date he transitioned to glory. Mickey faced this trial with strength, courage and tenacity. God truly manifested Himself in his life during this time.

God's grace and mercy was evident each and every day. Mickey fought the good fight of faith to the very end.

In addition to his parents, Mickey was preceded in death by his beloved son Charles Edward "Little Mickey" Simpson, Jr.; two sisters Kayrene Iona Jackson Wilson and Esther Jackson; and one brother Sterling Jackson.

He leaves behind to cherish his many memories of a life well lived, seven daughters: Portia Barnes of Clinton, MD; Annette (Sean) Long of Missouri City, TX; Corresa (John) Simpson of Rahway, NJ; Renee Simpson, of Rahway, NJ; Lorraine Simpson, of Houston, TX; Samantha

(Timothy) Trammer of Indianapolis, IN; Brittani Smith, of Nanjemoy, MD; one son Brandon Simpson, of Nanjemoy, MD; three sisters, Carolyn (Sterling) Swann; Gloria Sweetney; Evelyn (Alfred) Webb; and four brothers Charles (Hazel) Jackson; Ray (Shirley) Jackson, Jr; Barry Jackson; and Emmett Jackson.

Mickey is further survived by eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one daughter in law Carol Simpson; three beloved mothers of his children Mary Britt of Indian Head, MD; Joan Williams of Browns Mills, NJ; Sandra Smith of Nanjemoy, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Charles "Mickey" Simpson cherished his family and was loved by many. He leaves a legacy of love, strength, courage, generosity and a willingness to live life to the fullest. You have done well. Your family will remain true to your legacy. Rest in Heaven.
