OBITUARY

Charles Henry Monroe, Jr. (also known affectionately as Chuck or Chuckie) was born December 25 th , 1961, in Washington DC to Mary Monroe and the late Charles Henry Monroe, Sr.

Chuckie grew up in Washington, D.C. where he attended the public schools of Lucy Moten Elementary, Frederick Douglas Jr. Highschool and Frank W. Ballou High School in Southeast D.C.  Chuckie was introduced to tennis at Ft. Stanton Recreation Center located in Southeast.  With a rare introduction to such a sport in an inner city community, he and his friends developed a love for it.  Chuckie graduated from high school in 1979 and was a member of the Ballou High School football team, in addition he was also a member of the tennis team that would eventually compete for the District of Columbia Interhigh tennis championship.  Chuckie would further his passion for tennis when he was offered a tennis scholarship from Shaw University in North Carolina.  He would attend Virginia State University to play tennis and ultimately become a player/coach and teach this beloved sport while pursuing a degree in accounting.

The summer home for the Monroe boys growing up was often Whitmire, South Carolina.  It was there where Chuckie learned early about "numbers", truly strengthening his statistical skills.  Many fond memories were built with cousins Sandra, Arlene, Jimmy, Alice and Larkin.  Although we all remember the story differently than Chuckie, he really was scared of THE HAPPY DOG of Goshen Hill!!!

After graduating from college, Chuckie moved back to the DMV where he worked as a CPA for various firms.  Chuckie quicky caught the entrepreneurial spirit and started his own carpet cleaning business that serviced the government and many other facilities in the metropolitan area.  For years, Chuck built his business and shared his expertise with others.  Since having an accountant degree, he also offered services in accounting, bookkeeping, and income taxes for businesses and personal.

Considering all of Chuckie's accomplishments, the one he was most proud of was being a father to his only son Blake Monroe, born to he and Tamara Davis, on March 11, 1994.  Blake took a liking to sports early, and Chuckie was his biggest fan very often traveling hundreds of miles to attend weekend games and supporting him throughout his high school and college sports career.  Chuckie enjoyed developing sports reels to show off both Blake and his nephew, Demory game highlights.  Chuckie deeply loved his son, and that love will be missed but always remembered.

Chuckie joined the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, through the Alexandria-Fairfax Alumni Chapter.  There he continued to build relationships that are being reflected on today.  Chuckie was full of a love for life and sports.   He was naturally curious about the people and places around him and was never afraid to move to experience new opportunities.

Chuckie transitioned on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 after being hospitalized for months.  He leaves in loving memory, his son Blake Monroe; mother- Mary Monroe; brothers- Hank & Don Monroe; nephews-Demory and DJ Monroe; nieces- Shawnita Smith, Alexis Monroe, Maxine Monroe, McKenzie Monroe, friend Tamara Davis, Aunts – Arzina Herbert, Betty Harris, Uncle- Rev. Larkin Lee Hancock; sister-in-law- Melissa Monroe and Sabrina Monroe and a host of cousins, family and other close friends that loved and cared for him dearly.
