Charles Allen Fishburn, age 69, of Fort Washington, Maryland.

Charles Allen Fishburn, better known as "the Fish," entered this life on July 14, 1946 to Marie Mayes and Christopher Fishburn in Summersville, South Carolina.

He has been a resident of Fort Washington, Maryland for over 30 years. His Companion of 21 years (Jean) and longtime friend Frank Ivory and Son were at his side as he bravely met his home-going on April 22, 2016.

Charles served 21 years in our Military, both Army and Air Force, retiring in 1987 as a Transportation Specialist. He then began 29 more years of service to our troops in the capacity of Federal Government and culminating as a Transportation Officer with his Coast Guard family at Homeland Security.

Charles was educated in the Charleston South Carolina school system where he loved playing football. This childhood experience made him THE expert on the Washington Redskins (and he defended them to the end) victory or defeat. He also loved playing the guitar with his 'play son', Phil, collecting Gospel CDs, golfing, and watching anything Sports on TV.

You knew he loved you if he debated (anything) with you. Charles had this "do it right or not at all" attitude. He mostly loved serving the Lord through his voice.

Charles loved all his family and friends especially his immediate family and extended family at Fort Foote Baptist Church! He was a devoted Father, Grandfather, Brother, Companion, as well as a friend to many.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Sandra, a brother Frank (Denise); and a nephew Vondeste Jr.

He leaves to mourn, his life partner, Jean Jones; daughter Shiril Fishburn (Lamont); step-children Jose Lowery and Vonda Walker (Predist); brother Vondeste Fishburn (Bernice); grandchildren Khai and Shakira; great-grandson Amari Zahir; nieces and nephew Kelly, Tameka, and Frank Jr.; as well as a host of very special friends.
