Deacon Charles Owen Bland, son of Owen Harry Bland and .Mary Rita Yates-Bland entered into his eternal life of glory on July 24, 2026, at Heigh Hope Assisted Living Facility in Clinton, MD. Deacon Bland also affectionately known as “Big Jr.” was raised and spent his entire life in Bryans Road, Maryland. Being an only child, his cousins were his bothers and sisters. In his spare time, he enjoyed his cars, eating crabs making his famous crab cakes and watching his western movies.
Deacon Bland attended Pomonkey High School where he graduated on June 9, 1961. After graduation he started his Federal Government career at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head Maryland. He met and married the love of his life the late Conchita Thompson-Bland on December 20, 1961. On August 4, 1993, Deacon Bland retired from the Federal Government after 30 years of service.
Deacon Bland was introduced to the church at a young age. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized on August 8, 1958 at Macedonia Baptist Church of Bryans Road, MD. During his years as Trustee and Deacon he served an Usher, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Member in the Men’s Choir, Head of Security and Founding member of the Forever Faithful Ministry performing outreach within the community.
Deacon Bland was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Conchita Alice Bland, and his son Lamont Glen Bland.
He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his son Cornelius Bland, daughters Renee Bland-Lindsay, Rita White. Grandchildren Aaron Samuels, Isis White, Indya White. Great grandchildren Siya Johnson, Milo Allgood, Katana Samuels, Kaia Samuels. Adopted son Jesse Bell. Aunt Alice Eudora Chisley and a host of other relatives and friends.
His viewing will be held from 10:00am until time of service 11:00am on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment immediately to follow at Macedonia Baptist Church, 2645 Marshall Hall Road, Bryans Road, MD 20616.
