Obituary
Cedric Joseph Thompson was born September 15, 1945 in Indian Head, Maryland, to the late James C. Thompson and the late Alice K. Thompson. He met Patricia D. Yates in 1972 and together they had six children. He was called to his eternal home on Monday, March 12, 2012.
He attended public schools in Charles County, Maryland. Cedric worked at Smitty's Restaurant as a janitor, the Hechinger Company in Marlow Heights, Maryland, and the Naval Base in Indian Head, Maryland as a short order cook. He retired from Stump Neck/Indian Head Naval Base, EOD Technical Division as a Mail Carrier, in 1998 after 28 and one half years of dedicated service.
Cedric was an active member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church where he served many years on the Usher Board. You could always find Cedric as one of the favorite "doorkeepers", always on time and willing to serve with an open heart and bright smile.
He loved listening to his "oldies but goodies" music, with his favorite singers being Otis Redding and Sam Cooke; buying hand soaps, and buying and watching movies. He could always lift your spirits just by being in the same room with him. His laughter was contagious.
Cedric will always be remembered as a devoted and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He leaves to celebrate his life and cherish memories, his fiancé Patricia D. Yates; six children John Newman, Ernest Yates, Tonya Ferrell, Theresa Yates, Cedric Yates, Ernetta Yates Jones (Rondell Jones); fourteen grandchildren Tyshia, DJ, Briana, Raveon, Xavier, Chanell, De'Asia, Aaliyah, Isaiah, Jada, Asia, Tanee, Monyce, Tanesha; two brothers James C. Thompson, Sr., Vincent Thompson (Vertie Thompson); and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters Conchita Bland (Charles) and Cynthia Thompson.
His services will be held on Friday, March 23rd from 9am until time of service 11am at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment Church Cemetery. Arrangements Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, MD.
