Obituary

Born Cecile Yvette Browne May 3, 1943, in Washington, DC to the parents of the late Joesph C. Browne and Veronica Browne.  She was the nineth child of 7 sisters and 5 brothers.  She earned her wings on May 27, 2024, at age 81.

Cecile, affectionately known as Sil, was educated in Washington, DC public schools.  She loved roller skating, basketball, and reading.  Growing up, Sil was known as a quiet storm.  While she was typically very reserved, she could be a force to be reckoned with, especially when defending her loved ones.

As an adult, she worked as a waitress and short order cook at People's Drug Store at 14th Street NW and Westbrooks Restaurant at Benning Road NE.  She was always in search of true love and an opportunity to prove how much she loved her children.  She married and later divorced Ronnie Davis.  Her life's journey was filled with many obstacles, twists, and turns that led her to entrust her seven children to be cared for by family.  However, that didn't prevent her from ensuring they knew her love and intentions.

As her children grew older, she was known for having Spring dinners for them.  These dinners were always filled with everyone's favorite homemade delights and lots of love.  She was a great cook and baker.  Food was her passion and, if given the opportunity, she would eat fried chicken every night.

She was unbelievably talented, funny, witty, sharp tongued, and giving.  Her "tell it like it is" delivery could cut like a razor, leaving its victim speechless and bystanders bewildered and in "stiches". While her tongue was sometime piercing, you knew her love, especially if she remembered your birthday, which she often did.

In her later years, she found true love with Brother Khalid Mahdi.  After 26 beautiful years together, Mr. Mahdi peacefully departed in 2010.  While it was challenging to move on initially, Sil finally took flight and traveled the United States, taking amazing trips with family and friends and attending every event she could.

Her most memorable moments were being with family celebrating her birthdays, watching Bonanza, and spending time with her peers at the Crescent Ridge Adult Day Care Center in Oxon Hill, Maryland, which she attended from May 12, 2015, to May 17, 2024.  At the Center, she enjoyed arts and crafts, bingo, Tai chi, testing her skills at several trivia games, and music appreciation.  She would often be the star of the show when she shimmied her shoulders to her favorite tunes.  Before transitioning, she was able to recommunicate her love for Christ, her family, and especially her children.

She was heavenly greeted and leaves behind to cherish her memories a of host of relatives identified under My Family.
