Wills, Catherine Elizabeth (Age 78) of Waldorf, Maryland
Catherine E. Wills,78, of Waldorf, Maryland departed this life and entered into eternal life with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 27, 2020.
Catherine, 'Kitty', was born on September 27, 1942 in Spring Hill, Maryland to her parents, the late Charles Burchell Wills and Catherine V. (Dyson) Wills-Jones.
She received her education in the Charles County, Maryland public school system where she graduated from Bel Alton High School in 1961.
Catherine worked at the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Sagepoint) and the Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, D. C. prior to beginning her career with the Charles County Board of Education in 2001. She retired, after 13 years of service, from the Board of Education in 2014.
Catherine was raised in the close-knit black community of Spring Hill with her 12 brothers and sisters. She also grew up with several cousins who became life-long special friends.
Catherine was baptized and received her first communion at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata. She was a good student in school and was the best speller in the family.
Catherine's life was centered around her family. The highlight of her life was the birth of her only child, Yolonda. She worked long and hard to give Yolonda the best life possible and was very proud of the woman she had become. She actively supported and encouraged her three grandchildren, whom she enjoyed and doted over, to do their best in school.
During her retirement, Catherine enjoyed spending time with her family, gospel music, shopping, family vacations, and community events. She also enjoyed watching the Judge Judy, Steve Harvey, Divorce Court, and 'In the Heat of the Night' television shows. Catherine will always be remembered for taking the time to regularly call and check up on her special friends and relatives.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was predeceased by her brothers George L. Dyson and Christopher C. Jones, stepfather Leo Jones, brother-in-law Leroy Wallace, and special cousin Marsha Ann Stewart.
Catherine is survived by her daughter, Yolonda J. Johnson (Clifton), grandchildren, Canisha S. Mason-Wills, Marquise D. Mason-Wills, Kapao Williams; brothers Charles L. Wills (Margaret), Matthews N. Wills (Rosita), Robert X. Wills; sisters Mary L. Wallace, Helen P. Washington, Jean V. Stewart (Joseph), Audrey T. Wills, Beverly A. Chisley (James), Monica V. Wills, and Bonita M. Jones; special friends and relatives Ronald Dyson III and Dorothy Bush, and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
The viewing will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service, 11 a.m., Monday, October 12, 2020 at the Thornton Funeral Home P. A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland, 20640. The internment will take place immediately after the service at the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery, 201 Saint Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
A funeral repast will not be held. However, a memorial service to celebrate Catherine's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Catherine's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
