Catherine Louise Hicks

On Thursday July 23, 2026 Catherine Louise Hicks passed away peacefully at the age of 88 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland.

Catherine Louise Hicks was born to the late Nancy Hicks in Wicomico, Maryland. She received her education in the Charles County School System and graduated from Bel Alton High School in Bel Alton, Maryland.

She was a lifetime member of Trinity Episcopal Parish (Newport) in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, and began worshiping there with her mother and siblings where her faith grew strong. She stayed an active member until she gained her wings.

Catherine was employed at Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head Maryland for a few years as an Ordnance worker. She later worked as a Housekeeper with Simpson Land Company at the Clarion Inn of Waldorf Maryland during the 90's. Catherine was their most reliable and longest term employee they had at the time. She also worked for Charles County Public Schools part time as a cafeteria food service worker, a job that she really loved.

Catherine was a very kind, caring and thoughtful person that loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed watching a little football and Dancing with the Stars and would cooked the best fried chicken that would put Popeyes and KFC to shame. She worked hard all her life with the desire of supporting her two sons but most of all Catherine was just a wonderful and loving person.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nancy Hicks and Siblings James M.,Geraldine, Doris Hicks and her best friend Mary (Sis) Brown. Catherine leaves to cherish her memories with her children James and Gerald Hicks, her grandchildren Natasha Hicks, Jaron Hicks, Jarell Hicks, Mikal Hicks, Khia Swearinger, Gerald Hicks Jr.(GW) and Jertavia Hicks; a devoted and loving brother William Hicks, an Aunt Mary Queen and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and other relatives whom will never forget all the love she brought to their lives.

Her viewing will be held on Saturday, August 8th from 10:00am until time of service, 11:00am in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment immediately to follow at Trinity Episcopal Parrish Cemetery, Charlotte Hall, MD.
