Carolyn Louise (Bowman) Briscoe, 87 of White, Plains, Maryland.
Carolyn Louise (Bowman) Briscoe was born on August 1, 1937, in Chaptico, MD to the late Alice Elizabeth Dorsey and the late Merlin Joseph Butler.
Carolyn was educated through the Charles County Public Schools System. Carolyn married James Albert "Poddie" Briscoe on April 24, 1954. They were blessed with nine children, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Carolyn became a resident of St. Mary's and Charles Counties during her lifespan. Throughout her years, Carolyn had various places of employment. She worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Indian Head, Maryland. She was also an associate at Kmart and Sears, working as a cashier and a stock associate. Carolyn also worked as an in-home childcare provider for many children. She was also a private in-home care provider for Colonel and Mrs. Wade and family for many years.
Carolyn became an active member in 1983 with Ladies Auxiliary #301, Charles County Chapter. She was entrusted as a loyal treasurer with the Ladies Auxiliary for over 20 years and was the District #1 guard for over 10 years. Carolyn had many diverse interests. She loved singing gospel music with her church choir and at family functions, shopping, dining out at Olive Garden, and Golden Corral. Carolyn loved to travel to see plays with either her auxiliary members and attend various functions with them. She often loved to cook, sew blankets and mend things for various people. She occasionally loved to put puzzles together as well as focusing on her word searches. Carolyn loved hand-dancing and her favorite television programs were The Price Is Right with Bob Barker, The Carol Burnett Show, Press Your Luck, and watching PBS cooking shows with Julia Child.
Carolyn peacefully departed from this life and entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Briscoe "Poddie", daughter, Yvonne and son, David.
She is survived by her children, Juanita Briscoe, Barbara Rawlings (Donald), Gerald Briscoe (Kim), Paulette Price (James), Renee Douglas (Ronald), Andre Briscoe and Crystal Hall (Bart). She is also survived by her sisters, Alice Plater (Preston) and June Maclin, brother, Louis Bowman (Thelma) and a host of beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Carolyn will be missed by all who have known her.
Visitation; Monday, January 27, 2025, 10:00 a.m., until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. St. Mary's Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, Maryland 20617. Interment, St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery.
