IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl Ray
Taylor
October 27, 1946 – August 19, 2017
Carl Ray Taylor peacefully transitioned home to be with the Lord, Saturday, August 19 th at his home in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Carl was born to Herman, Jr. and Nannie Mae Taylor in Kinston, North Carolina on October 27, 1946. After attending Woodington High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served four years.
After serving in the military, Carl relocated to the Washington, D.C. area where he attended the University of the District of Columbia. It was in Washington, D.C. that he met his former spouse Catherine Taylor. From this union, three sons were born; Demond C. Taylor, Lance A. Taylor and Carlton R. Taylor.
Carl was an extraordinary father and family man who adored his boys. There was not one football game, baseball game or dance recital (smile) that he did not attend. He treated each of them as if he were his "only child," giving them their own special outings. His dream was to see his boys develop into successful men with families of their own. Carl showed up for EVERYTHING! He refused to allow his health challenges to stop him. His children and grandchildren anticipated getting those large Walmart gift cards and his regular "checkup" calls to the families.
Carl loved traveling with his cousins, Harvey L. Taylor and Dianne Royal Taylor. He looked forward to those trips and to being around his family. The annual family reunion took place in May, but, Carl would begin calling in February to see who was going to attend. Nothing was more important than family.
A hardworking man, Carl retired from two large corporations. He worked as a supervisor for Hechinger for more than 20 years and as a Walmart sales associate for another 20 years. He greeted people with that large smile, encouraging them to check out the latest technology in electronics where he spent most of his time. He was the epitome of a "People Person."
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; Herman and Nannie Mae Taylor and his sister Delores Taylor.
Carl leaves to cherish his memory three sons; Demond Taylor (Portia), Lance Taylor (Jacquelynn) and Carlton Taylor; former spouse Catherine Taylor; four grandchildren; Paris Taylor, Lance Taylor, Jr., Carson Taylor and London Taylor, two nephews; Kevin Taylor (LaToysha) and Cory Taylor (Janella); one niece, Alicia Dixon-Taylor (Aaron), Harvey L. and Dianne Royal Taylor, cousins whom he affectionately called brother and sister-in-law, six aunts; Mary Alice Smith, Rosa L. Early, Ossie Mae Nobles, Brice Bryant, Helena Williams and Thelma Spencer, four uncles; Robert G. Taylor (Wilhelmina), Roger Williams, William Lee Sutton (Emma Doris), Alton Sutton (Jean), lifelong friends; Ivory Cooper, Billie White, Dr. Joe Williams, Robert Lee, Henry Lee Ammons and a host of loved ones.
