Obituary

Brenda Olither Fortune Smith (Age 75) of Temple Hills, Maryland.

Our Loving Mother, Brenda Fortune Smith, entered into this life on July 16, 1943, in Hustle, Virginia. She peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. She was the second child born to Celeste Fortune and was raised by her cousin Ann Fortune Coley and Wyatt Kenner.

Brenda graduated from Wheaton High School in 1961. She began her career at C&P Telephone Company in 1962 as a file clerk and worked her way in to a management position and retired from the phonecompany in 1991. In 1992, she was employed at the Washington Hospital Center in the Medical RecordsDepartment until 2005. In 2009 she founded Brendan Works, LLC a family business run by Daniel Smith inhopes of fulfilling her sons dream of being a business owner.

Brenda was a devoted wife, homemaker, dedicated worker and loving mother of five children. She was a caring and loving person who would always provide a sense of comfort to all her friends and family. Her memory will always be cherished by all who were touched by her kind and giving heart. She had a passion for dressing and wearing fancy hats, gardening and being out on the porch reflecting on her work. She also enjoyed playing bid whist with friends and family and would be quick to let you know, you were about to receive this whooping. Brenda enjoyed many vacation trips with her two best friends Marlene and Gloria. Her strong personality was so touching to so many people in so many different ways. Once you've crossed her path you knew from that moment you had met a dear friend for life. She was a strong role model, who never hesitated to express her deep commitment to all of her children to do right by others. Her most memorable phrases are "DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME" and "TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WANT TOBE TREATED."

Brenda joined First Baptist Church of Ken Gar, in Kensington, Md. at an early age, under the pastoral ship of Rev. Murphy. She was a faithful and devoted member who loved worship service. Brenda was also a Sunday school teacher. She joined Grace United Methodist Church and was a committed member and served as a Communion Stewart, member of the Hospitality Committee and the Tribe of Ephraim under the pastoral ship of Pastor Slade.

Brenda leaves to cherish her memories: her two daughters: Yolonda (Emory), and Doreen (Kevin): three sons Donald, Dwayne and Daniel; her grandchildren: Nakisha, Devin, Malik, Aubrey, Alivia, London and Vincent; three sisters: Christine, Renee (Marc) and Adrienne (deceased); two brothers: Bernard (Emma) and Rodney (Theresa); and a host of loving family members and devoted friends. We loved you dearly, but we knew God had greater plans for you and He loved you best. The Family!
