Obituary

Blondell Helen (Bowman) Swann (Age 73) of Marbury, Maryland.

Surrounded by her family and friends, Blondell Helen Swann departed this life on January 28, 2015, at the home of her daughter, Luwan, and son-in-law Alfred Grinder.

Blondell was born on September 4, 1941, to the late Eva Bowman and James Stanley Penny of Marbury, MD. She grew up in Marbury and was educated in the Charles County Public School system. After graduating from high school, Blondell worked at Lansburgh's and Hecht's department stores in Washington, DC.

On February 23, 1963, Blondell was united in Holy Matrimony to her high school sweetheart, John Milton Swann, Sr.; a marriage that endured over 50 years. Through this union, they welcomed four children into their lives and into their hearts. Upon the birth of their first child, she chose to become a stay-at-home mom, beginning her life-long commitment to care-giving and raising children as a day-care provider, touching the lives of many children. During her care of others, Blondell never wavered in her love and devotion to her husband and family. She so dearly loved her siblings and spending time with them at the "Outback Kitchen" at Penny Estates. She enjoyed cooking and using her gadgets and special dishes to prepare her favorite recipes.

In her later years, Blondell enjoyed spending hours on the phone with her daughter, Luwan, chatting through their favorite television show, Seinfeld, and shopping on QVC; and on occasion, she enjoyed their outings in search of antique treasures. Blondell was a woman of impeccable class and style. She loved beautiful clothes, unique handbags, and fabulous shoes that completed every outfit.

Left to cherish Blondell's memory are her husband, John, Sr.; children, John, Jr. (Christy); Emmagene (Larry); Luwan (Alfred); Gina (Winston, Sr.); nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, J. Kenneth Bowman (Mary Ellen), Marguerite Harvey, G. Calvin Bowman (Deloris), Paul (Bobby) Bowman (Betty), Violet Simmons, Elaine Baker, Catherine (Liz) Thompson, Francis (Sonny) Penny, and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, James Bowman, Evelyn Howard, Annie Gray, Charles Bowman, William (Cabby) Bowman and Wilson (Tom) Bowman.

Viewing, 9am until time of service, 11am, Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland. Interment, St. Charles Cemetery, Glymont, Maryland.
